About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical/Thermal Process Engineer with strong expertise in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid flow analysis to join our engineering and R&D team. In this role, you will design, analyze, and optimize thermal and fluid systems used in industrial processes, renewable technologies, and advanced manufacturing applications.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative engineering solutions, improve energy efficiency, and support pilot-scale and full-scale system development.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed heat transfer and fluid flow calculations for new and existing systems
Design, evaluate, and optimize thermal and process equipment, including heat exchangers, piping systems, pumps, and membrane modules
Develop or support Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;) and functional descriptions for process systems
Conduct CFD simulations and analytical modeling to enhance system performance
Support pilot plant development, commissioning, and troubleshooting
Contribute to energy analysis, system integration, and process optimization projects
Prepare technical documentation, test reports, and engineering specifications
Collaborate with R&D, production, and operations teams to support ongoing engineering initiatives



Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field
Strong understanding of: Heat transfer (conduction, convection, radiation), Fluid mechanics and hydrodynamics, Thermodynamics and energy systems
Experience with CFD tools, heat transfer modeling, or process simulation software
Familiarity with process design, thermal equipment, or pilot plant development
Ability to interpret and develop technical engineering drawings (e.g., P&IDs;, schematics)
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Functional Safety Engineer to lead and support functional safety activities in alignment with international standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and/or ISO 13849. You will play a key role in system and hardware/software safety lifecycle processes for complex safety-critical applications.
This position is ideal for a candidate who thrives on solving intricate problems, leading safety programs, and ensuring system compliance from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead safety lifecycle activities including hazard analysis, risk assessment, safety concept development, and validation.



Define and maintain safety plans, safety case documentation, and safety goals.



Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure safety requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.



Conduct FMEA, FTA, and FMEDA analyses.



Support design and implementation of safety mechanisms across system layers.



Guide teams through the interpretation and application of safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508).



Lead functional safety assessments and audits (internal and external).



Interface with customers and certification bodies to demonstrate compliance and resolve findings.



Mentor junior safety engineers and promote best practices within the team.



Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.



Minimum 5–7 years of experience in functional safety engineering.



Deep knowledge of safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ISO 13849, or DO-178C.



Demonstrated experience conducting safety analysis techniques (FMEA, FTA, HARA, FMEDA).



Experience developing and reviewing safety requirements and architectures.



Strong documentation and communication skills.



Ability to manage safety deliverables and interface with customers independently.



Preferred:
TÜV or equivalent functional safety certification.



Experience with safety-critical embedded systems and real-time applications.



Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, Medini Analyze, Ansys, or similar.



Experience with ASPICE or CMMI frameworks.

The Role
As a System Engineer with specialization in Safe Vehicle Motion, you will be responsible for systems engineering activities that enable development of safe control systems related to vehicle motion for AD/ADAS and Electromobility applications.

Who we are looking for

You see the need for developing both nominal and safety-related functionality hand-in-hand from the start, in order to ensure a good balance between safety and availability. You have a genuine interest in vehicle development within the areas of ADAS and AD, and the related challenges in safety assurance.

Necessary qualifications
Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
At least 3 years of work experience in systems engineering or functional safety for vehicle control systems
Good understanding of system architectures at vehicle and system level
Good understanding of vehicle embedded systems and vehicle dynamics
Good understanding of ISO 26262/similar standards and related system safety activities
Skilled in defining system design and specifying requirements at various levels of abstraction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English


Preferred qualifications
Been through at least one vehicle development project from concept phase to commercial launch
Experience in hands-on embedded software implementation and verification
Experience within AD, ADAS, or Electromobility domains
Experience in utilizing agile methodologies
