We are now looking for an Industrial PhD and/or Research Engineer to join our Innovation Team. We have several initiatives and research projects around D-band passive frontends and are looking for exceptional researchers in the field of RF engineering with a strong interest in developing novel and impactful solutions.
Job Description
As a member of the Innovation Team you will carry out research activities in line with the company's technology goals. You will be sitting with our larger Research and Development department and focus on strategic research activities. The main research topic will be around D-band passive front end the available roles are industrial PhD or alternatively Research Engineer.
Industrial PhD
We offer the possibility to take an Industrial PhD within the VINNOVA funded research project ENTOURAGE: Energy Efficient Point to Multipoint Fronthaul for 6G Wideband Distributed MIMO. The research project is in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology, Ericsson and GotMIC.
Distributed Multiple Input, Multiple Output (DMIMO) is seen as one of the key approaches for 6G networks to increase the user data rates while simultaneously enhancing spectral and energy efficiency. DMIMO relies on densely deployed radio access points (APs) which opens the question how these APs themselves should be connected to the network – called fronthauling. This project aims to solve this question by developing a wideband wireless fronthaul solution based on a point to multipoint smart antenna array at D-Band. This sub-THz frequency band provides ample absolute bandwidth which will be required for the expected data rates, but poses technological challenges in terms of antenna frontend and transmitter electronics. With a diverse team in terms of expertise and a mix of academia (Chalmers) and industry (Ericsson, Gotmic and Gapwaves) the ENTOURAGE team is well positioned to solve these challenges and develop the key components for future 6G fronthaul networks, thus unlocking the DMIMO network
revolution
The research will be carried out with the gap waveguide technology as the fundamental baseline for developing a high frequency antennas and components soluitins for D-band fronthauling for communication.
As an industrial PhD student you will be employed by Gapwaves but will follow the PhD educational program at Chalmers Department of Electrical Engineering. As a student you have the same obligation and opportunities as a University employed PhD student but also the industrial support and influence. You will be given the full access to world-class millimeter wave labs at Chalmers. Supervision team will include both industry experts and supervisors at Chalmers.
Qualifications
Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a Master of Science degree or equivalent in a relevant electrical engineering or applied physics discipline. In addition to the formal qualifications, selection is also based on the performance of the candidates in other works (e.g. thesis and advanced level courses), as well as through interviews and assignments. Besides good subject knowledge, emphasis will be on creative thinking, motivation, ability to cooperate, initiative to work independently and personal suitability for research training. Previous experience in the area of Electromagnetic fields and Antenna theory as well as proficiency in using Full-wave solvers such as HFSS and CST is considered to be an advantage. Highly proficient in both written and spoken English is mandatory.

As a mechanical design engineer, you will be part of a development team consisting of 5-7 engineers working together with a project manager to deliver customer projects and drive internal development projects. In our projects you will be part of going all the way from concept to complete product. You are actively engaged with the customer to understand their requirements, you lead the mechanical design phase where you work iteratively with your electrical engineering counterparts to find the best solution from electrical and mechanical performance standpoint, work with suppliers to find the best manufacturing solutions, and lastly ensure that the parts and assembly are validated to reach the expected performance.

Job Description:

As a senior validation engineer you will lead the work to develop validation strategies both at the suppliers and in our in-house laboratory facility. This includes, but is not limited to, mechanical validation of complex geometries with tight tolerances and environmental qualification of antennas.
You will be a part of a skilled and driven team of mechanical engineers, but you work will be an important collaboration within our RnD, supply, and quality departments.

Responsibilities :
Mechanical measurements and verification of parts and assembled antennas against specification
Maintaining in-house laboratory mechanical measurement equipment

Working with suppliers to verify their validation strategies and reports for our parts
Quality assurance of products


Required Qualifications:
University degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering or similar.

Experience with statistical quality control in validation
