Duties 
The researcher position will be linked to a research project focusing on immunological assessments of preoperative biopsies to improve the diagnostics of rectal cancer to thereby individualize the treatment regimes. The methods that will be used in the project include multicolor immunohistochemistry, proteomics on cell lysates, bioinformatics and analyses of multiplex IHC. The candidate is also expected to supervise students at both master's and doctoral level and to apply for research grants.

Qualifications 
To qualify the applicant should have a Ph.D. in relevant subject such as immunology or tumor biology. The applicant should have knowledge or interest in the field of cancer research, practical laboratory experience within immunology and/or cancer research is a requirement. Highly proficient in spoken and written English is necessary. Extensive experience in immunohistochemistry, proteomics, bioinformatics as well as in depth knowledge of multiplex IHC analyses are highly valued. Documented knowledge within cancer in the gastrointestinal tract, experience of supervision and teaching is an advantage. It is expected that you can conduct research in a highly independent manner. We value a candidate who is driven, organizational, meticulous and effective and independent. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability as the project is conducted in collaboration with other researchers.

The immune system is important for fighting tumors, and this ability can be improved with different types of immunotherapy. Our research group studies immunity against colorectal tumors, and how immunity may be improved by novel immunotherapeutic strategies.

Duties 
Isolation of immune cells from human tissue and blood. Culturing and stimulation of immune cells. Flow cytometric analyses of immune cells. Microscopy. Compilation and interpretation of research data.

Qualifications 
PhD in tumor immunity. Extensive experience in methods for isolating human cells from tumors and blood, culturing and in vitro activation of human T cells and flow cytometric and immunofluorescence analyses. In addition, extensive experience in conducting independent research in tumor immunity, compiling and interpreting research data, and writing scientific articles.

Employment

The Rimkute lab is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join a new research team to investigate new tools that can contribute to effective counter measures against norovirus

Subject area 
Norovirus research.

Subject area description 
Human norovirus (HuNoV) causes winter vomiting disease and is the largest contributor to gastrointestinal infection outbreaks in different settings as well as different age groups worldwide. Most vulnerable are children, the elderly and immunosuppressed or immunocompromised individuals. The virus is very diverse and spreads easily which makes outbreaks difficult or often impossible to control. It has high impact on societal costs and resources. Despite the virus has been known for more than 50 years there are still neither effective preventive nor therapeutic measures against HuNoV. Therefore, there remains a strong interest to study HuNoV.

Duties 
In this project the candidate will focus on two crucial steps contributing towards the development of effective countermeasures against HuNoV. The first step is to isolate monoclonal antibodies that react against different noroviruses and protect us against the infection. The second step is to develop intestinal organoids that can be used for HuNoV infection and propagation. These steps play a big role in understanding of pathogenesis of gastrointestinal infections caused by HuNoV. The findings are going to contribute to design of effective countermeasures and treatment against future HuNoV infections and outbreaks.

Eligibility 
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg. 

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made. 

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.  

Assessment criteria 
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in virology, immunology and intestinal biology, with experience in culturing intestinal organoids and applying high-throughput screening methodologies. Experience with techniques such as flow cytometry, PCR, and bioinformatic analysis is highly desirable. Great emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s personal suitability for the position and clear interest in the subject area. Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is necessary.

Ämne 
Tumörimmunologi

Ämnesbeskrivning 
Immunsystemet är viktigt för att bekämpa tumörer, och denna förmåga kan förbättras ytterligare med olika typer av immunterapi. Vår forskningsgrupp studerar immunitet mot tumörer i tjocktarmen, och hur denna kan förbättras genom att förstärka delar av immunsystemet ytterligare. Vi är framför allt intresserade av så kallade okonventionella T celler, en grupp av T celler där de mest förekommande är gd T celler och mucosa-associated invariant T (MAIT) celler. Vi studerar hur dessa celler tar sig till tumören, deras olika effektorfunktioner, hur de bidrar till immunitet mot tumörer och om dessa egenskaper kan användas i immunterapi.

Arbetsuppgifter 
I första hand självständig forskning om okonventionella T cellers roll i tumörimmunitet i form av planering, genomförande och analys av experiment med syfte att undersöka cytotoxiska mekanismer. Dessutom rapportering i form av vetenskapliga arbeten och vid konferenser. Deltagande i forskargruppens gemensamma arbete med att isolera celler från vävnadsprover, ta ansvar för skötsel av instrument och delta i gruppens möten och diskussioner. Handledning av studenter. 

Behörighet 
Behörighet för anställning som lärare regleras i Högskoleförordningen 4 Kap och Göteborgs universitets anställningsordning. 

Behörig att anställas som postdoktor är den som har avlagt doktorsexamen, konstnärlig doktorsexamen eller som har en utländsk examen som bedöms motsvara doktorsexamen. Detta behörighetskrav ska vara uppfyllt senast vid tidpunkten då anställningsbeslutet fattas.

I första hand bör den komma i fråga som har avlagt examen högst tre år före ansökningstidens utgång. Även den som avlagt examen tidigare bör komma i fråga i första hand, om det finns särskilda skäl. Avlagd doktorsexamen inom immunologi är ett krav för att komma i fråga för anställningen. Erfarenhet av att framgångsrikt planera och genomföra egen forskning inom immunologifältet, sammanställa och tolka forskningsresultat och skriva vetenskapliga artiklar värderas högt. Erfarenhet av flödescytometriska analyser är meriterande, liksom erfarenhet av metoder för att isolera och odla humana celler från vävnad. Utöver detta är erfarenhet av bioinformatoriska analyser och avancerad mikroskopi också värdefullt. Vidare krävs att sökande har god organisatorisk förmåga och är noggrann, samt har god förmåga att samarbeta med olika personalkategorier.

What you'll do?
As a Senior Scientist you will be a vital member of the department and in various working teams to progress our respiratory and immunological drug discovery projects. You will actively take part in scientific discussions, gain input from others and be involved in multiple project meetings to present and discuss experimental plans and data.

This is a partly lab-based role where you will be actively involved in experimental phase of histological analyses, with responsibility to coordinate, perform and evaluate experiments as well as drive the establishment of new techniques. Characterization and validation of target expression and subsequent evaluation of engagement of the target by drug treatment in both patient and in vivo tissue samples will be key areas of your daily work. You will independently assess and report data with a clear understanding of its reliability, interpretation of findings and draw appropriate conclusions with input from others.

We are looking for a great teammate with strong background in histology and related image analysis techniques with a specific focus on autoimmune/autoinflammatory or respiratory diseases, ideally complemented by some experience in pathology and pre-clinical drug discovery processes.

Knowledge in histology scoring and histomorphometry

Proven knowledge and experience in image analysis platforms (e.g. Visiopharm and Halo)

Understanding of statistical methods, quality control and data reporting/archiving

The Early Respiratory & Immunology In Vivo Student Work Placement Program offers a unique 12-month opportunity to dive into the world of innovative drug discovery. Accountabilities
We offer 12-month placements at AstraZeneca’s Gothenburg site in Sweden for students at Swedish institutions. The role focuses on characterising immune cell populations in colon samples from various in vivo models of IBD, aiming to understand immune response kinetics comprehensively. You will be involved in developing multiplex panels for histology assessment, conducting staining, and performing automated image analysis under the supervision of an experienced scientist. The techniques and markers developed can also be applied to study respiratory diseases, providing a versatile approach to understanding immune responses in diverse tissue contexts. You will work in well-equipped lab facilities with state-of-the-art histology equipment and image analysis software, gaining hands-on experience and insight into important areas of the pre-clinical research process.

Essential Skills/Experience

BSc or MSc or equivalent students in any Bioscience, Immunology or aligned course at a Swedish University.
You must have completed at least two years of your university education at the time of starting the placement and be returning to complete your studies after this opportunity ends.
Performing at a high level, with the potential to achieve a pass with distinction.
Applicants must have the eligibility to work in Sweden for 12 months from September 2025 without the need for additional work permits.

The role of the immune system in age-related diseases is one of our major interests. In this project, we will investigate which immune pathways are overactivated in common diseases, how immune cell hyperactivity is linked to disease susceptibility, and how environmental and genetic factors influence immune activation and disease manifestation. It is anticipated that the knowledge from the successful candidate’s research could ultimately be exploited to devise improved strategies to treat human age-related diseases such Parkinson’s.

Duties 
The successful appointee will join an exciting project characterizing the inflammatory pathways that mediates immune system activation during infection and neurodegenerative diseases. The successful appointee will have the opportunity to develop their research career in a laboratory with a strong emphasis on training and mentorship. There will be opportunities to for the successful appointee to supervise postgraduate students and to apply for their own research funding. A broad skill base, including molecular and cellular biology (qRT-PCR), biochemistry (Immunoprecipitation, Western blotting), immunological assays (ELISA, Flow cytometry), cell biology (extracellular vesicles isolation) and the knowledge about inflammation mouse models is highly desirable.

Eligibility 
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

Applicants should possess a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in immunological research, excellent general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent writing abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and within a team. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.

Several ongoing studies at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Gothenburg studies basal immunological mechanisms that contribute to a well functioning immune response that can fight infections and give protection after vaccination. We are now recruiting a researcher with extensive experience in modern technologies used to study immune responses, including single-cell RNASeq and flowcytometry, and with an interest in how the early development of the immune system in children contribute to an efficient immune system in adults.

Duties 
The candidate will be working in in a collaborative environment that includes researchers at the University of Gothenburg and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The project will provide good opportunities for further development of research competence in experimental as well as clinical immunology. Your will be studying the development of the immune system during childhood, and also how this is influenced by different immune deficiencies. In addition, you will be involved in an ongoing project that studies immune responses in COVID-19 patients that focuses on how immunological memory triggered by infections with other beta-coronaviruses can contribute to protection against SARS-CoV-2 infections. The experimental work will primarily involve advanced flow cytometry, cell sorting and single-cell RNASeq (including CITE-Seq and hashtagging) of small purified cell populations as well as tissue culture. The job assignments include experimental work, establishment and validation of new laboratory methods, data analysis, organization of sample collections and results. The candidate is also expected to write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

Qualifications 
A doctoral degree is compulsory for the position. The candidate should have a strong background in immunology. Extensive practical experience of immunological analysis methods, cell culture and single-cell RNASeq of small immunological cell populations is essential. Experience of flow cytometry, clinical tests as well as publications in reputable scientific journals are important merits. The candidate is expected to have good collaborative skills and well-documented ability to present scientific results both orally and in writing. Good knowledge of English is compulsory for the position and some knowledge of Swedish is desirable. Subject area 
Postdoctoral fellow in cancer biology and immunology.

Subject area description 
The research group conducts research based on immunological analyses of gastrointestinal cancers with three recent publications in this area of research:  Rezapour et al; Oncoimmunology, 2023 May 10;12(1):2209473, Liang et al Cancers; 2022 Jun 10;14(12):2882 and 2021 Oct 19;13(20):5247.

Duties 
The post doctor position will be linked to a research project focusing on immunological assessments of preoperative biopsies to improve the diagnostics of rectal cancer to thereby individualize the treatment regimes. The methods that will be used in the project include single cell sequencing, bioinformatics, gene expression analysis, advanced flow cytometry, culture of organoids as well as cellular assays. The candidate is also expected to supervise students at both master's and doctoral level and to apply for research grants.

Isolering och expansion av immunceller från tumörer i både mus och människa. Odling av tumörceller. In vitro analyser av cytotoxicitet, vilka utvärderas med flödescytometri.

Kvalifikationer 
Stor erfarenhet av metoder för att isolera humana celler från tumörer och frisk vävnad från tjocktarm, in vitro aktivering och expansion av humana T celler och flödescytometriska analyser med användning av både klassisk och spektral flödescytometri och cluster-analys. Dessutom en stor erfarenhet att genomföra egen forskning inom tumörimmunologi, sammanställa och tolka forskningsresultat och skriva vetenskapliga artiklar.

Anställningen är tidsbegränsad 6 månader, omfattning 60%, med placering tills vidare vid Institutionen för biomedicin. Tillträde: enligt överenskommelse.

Institutionen för neurovetenskap och fysiologi, söker nu en forskare, med placering vid Sektionen för fysiologi.

Forskningen vid Institutionen för neurovetenskap och fysiologi är både preklinisk och klinisk inom områdena neurovetenskap, rehabilitering, farmakologi, neurofysiologi, endokrin fysiologi och cirkulationsfysiologi. Det vetenskapliga arbetet omfattar molekylär- och cellbiologiska studier, integrativa experimentella studier, klinisk forskning och epidemiologi.

Inom institutionen undersöker Ingrids Wernstedt Asterholms grupp mekanismer bakom nedsatt eller bibehållen fettvävsfunktion vid fettvävnadsexpansion (viktökning) och hur fettvävnaden påverkar hela kroppens metaboliska reglering.

Arbetsuppgifter

Medarbetaren kommer att delta i ett spännande pågående projekt som karakteriserar rollen av fettvävens immunceller för ECM-remodelering under adaptiv och icke-adaptiv fettvävnadsexpansion och hur denna process påverkas av biologiskt kön.

Medarbetaren kommer att ansvara för att generera hypoteser, planera, utföra, analysera och förbereda data för publicering samt samarbete med kliniker och andra forskargrupper.  I detta avseende förväntas den anställde bidra med expertis inom immunologi och fettvävnadsbiologi.

Forskningen kommer att involvera ett brett spektrum av metoder såsom flödescytometri, Western blot, RNA/DNA-isolering och kvantifiering samt histologiska analyser. Dessutom är utvärdering av data med hjälp av bioinformatiska och statistiska verktyg en integrerad del av arbetet.

Det experimentella arbetet inkluderar in vivo, in vitro/ex vivo och kliniska studier.  In vivo-studierna  inkluderar hantering av muskolonier och metabolisk och immunologisk fenotypning av musmodeller.  In vitro/ex vivo studierna inkluderar arbete med 3D-odling av mus- och humana primära celler (t ex stamceller, makrofager, fibroblaster och endotelceller) isolerade från fettvävnad, benmärg och perifert blod. In vitro-analyser av isolerade och odlade celler inkluderar till exempel mätningar av endocytos/fagocytoskapacitet, ”tub”-bildning, kemotaxi.

Handledning av doktorander och master/kandidatstudenter samt andra undervisningsuppgifter kommer att förekomma. Den sökande förväntas också ansöka om extern finansiering.

Kvalifikationer

Den sökande måste ha en doktorsexamen inom immunologi eller immunometabolism. Omfattande erfarenhet från experimentell forskning inom fettvävnadsbiologi och immunologi är ett krav.

På grund av tidsramen för den kliniska studien och pågående doktorandhandledning är omfattande erfarenhet av avancerad ”multicolour” flödescytometri (design av antikroppspaneler och kvalitetskontroller, utföra och analysera resultat) och isolering och odling av celler från fettvävnad viktiga krav.

Tidigare erfarenhet av att arbeta med 3D-odling av preadipocyter/adipocyter, och erfarenhet av könsjämförande studier är meriterande.

Anställningen kommer att kräva mentorskap av forskarstuderande, därför är erfarenhet av handledarskap meriterande. Det förväntas att den sökande kan arbeta både självständigt och i grupp; således antas goda medmänskliga färdigheter. Andra kvalifikationer inkluderar utmärkta muntliga och skriftliga språkkunskaper i engelska. Vi lägger stor vikt vid personlig lämplighet. 

Den sökande ska kunna visa dokumenterad erfarenhet (publikationer i vetenskapliga tidskrifter, referenser från tidigare handledare) av relevans för arbetsuppgifterna.

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

We are looking for a highly motivated, academically excellent and proactive researcher with a strong background in exosombiology and inflammation to study the connection between the immune system and brain health and further develop this research area in the Härtlova laboratory (https://www.gu.se/en/ research / anetta-hartlova) at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Department of Biomedicine, University of Gothenburg.

Duties 
The employee will join an exciting project that characterizes the inflammatory pathways involved in the activation of the immune system in infection and neurodegenerative diseases. The employee will isolate outer membrane vesicles from different tissues and characterize their immunostimulatory potential and correlation to neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. The successful employee is given the opportunity to develop their research career in a laboratory with a strong focus on education and mentorship.

Qualifications 
PhD in relevant subject. Applicants must have a strong background in innate immunity, inflammation or host-pathogen interactions. A broad base of expertise, including molecular and cellular biology (qRT-PCR), biochemistry (immunoprecipitation, Western blotting), immunological analyzes (ELISA, flow cytometry), exosome isolation is highly desirable. Applicants must have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly productive research career in immunological research, excellent general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent writing skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team. Fluent proficiency in spoken and written English is essential.

Subject area 
Cancer biology and immunology.

Subject area description 
The research group conducts research based on immunological analyses of gastrointestinal cancers with three recent publications in this area of research:  Liang et al Cancers; 2022 Jun 10;14(12):2882, 2021 Oct 19;13(20):5247 and 2021 May 17;13(10):2428.

Duties 
The post doctor position will be linked to a research project focusing on immunological assessments of preoperative biopsies to improve the diagnostics of rectal cancer to thereby individualize the treatment regimes. The methods that will be used in the project include multicolour immunohistochemistry, advanced flow cytometry, bioinformatics, gene expression analysis, culture of primary cells, cell lines and organoids as well as cellular assays. The candidate is also expected to supervise students at both master's and doctoral level and to apply for research grants.

Eligibility 
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg. 

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made. 

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Assessment criteria 
To qualify the applicant should have a Ph.D. in relevant subject such as immunology, molecular biology or tumour biology. The applicant should have knowledge or interest in the field of cancer research. Practical laboratory experience within immunology and/or cancer research is a requirement. Highly proficient in spoken and written English is necessary. Extensive experience in immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, bioinformatics, molecular biology techniques, gene expression analyses and cellular assays are highly valued. Documented knowledge within cancer in the gastrointestinal tract, experience of supervision and teaching is an advantage. It is expected that you can conduct research in a highly independent manner. We value a candidate who is driven, organizational, meticulous and effective and independent. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability as the project is conducted in collaboration with other researchers.

Ämnesbeskrivning

Arbetsuppgifter 
Anställningen är kopplad till ett forskningsprojekt med fokus på immunologiska analyser av pre-operativa biopsier för att förbättra diagnostiken av ändtarmscancer och därmed individanpassa behandlingar.  Arbetsuppgifter som ingår är multifärgning mha immunohistokemi och avancerad flödescytometri samt bioinformatik, genexpressionsanalyser, odling av primära celler (organoider) och cellulära analyser. Handledning av studenter och doktorander samt skrivande av anslagsansökningar är också del av arbetsuppgifterna.

Behörighet 
Behörighet för anställning som lärare regleras i Högskoleförordningen 4 Kap och Göteborgs universitets anställningsordning. 

Behörig att anställas som postdoktor är den som har avlagt doktorsexamen, konstnärlig doktorsexamen eller som har en utländsk examen som bedöms motsvara doktorsexamen. Detta behörighetskrav ska vara uppfyllt senast vid tidpunkten då anställningsbeslutet fattas.

I första hand bör den komma i fråga som har avlagt examen högst tre år före ansökningstidens utgång. Även den som avlagt examen tidigare bör komma i fråga i första hand, om det finns särskilda skäl. Flytande kunskaper i mutlig och skriftlig engelska är väsentligt.

Erfarenhet av immunohistokemi, flödescytometri, molekylärbiologiska metoder, bioinformatik, odling av organoider, genexpressionsanalyser och cellulära analyser är meriterande. God ämnesspecifik kunskap inom gastrointestinal cancer med erfarenhet av undervisning och handledning av studenter/examensarbetare är en fördel.

Det förväntas att den sökande kan arbeta självständigt. Hänsyn kommer därför tas till, eget driv, organisatorisk förmåga och noggrannhet. Eftersom tjänsten också kräver samarbete i en multidisciplinär grupp läggs stor vikt vid personlig lämplighet.

What you'll do
As a Senior Scientist, Immunology you are a vital member of the in vivo team and will contribute to the progress of our drug discovery projects. You will actively take part in scientific discussions, represent the department in project meetings, gain input from other functions and incorporate in vitro as well as pharmacokinetic data in the experimental design.


This is a partly lab-based role where you will be actively involved in the design, planning and execution of the experiments, with the responsibility to coordinate, perform and analyze in vivo experiments. You will independently assess and report data with a clear understanding of its reliability, interpretation of findings and draw appropriate conclusions.


We are looking for a team player with a strong background in innate and adaptive immunity, experience in animal hands-on work, skills in cellular- and molecular biology techniques and knowledge in pre-clinical drug discovery.


Essential for the role
* PhD in immunology, ideally complemented by a number of years working in a drug discovery environment
* Ability to independently design and perform in vivo disease and mechanistic models, including administration of candidate drugs, collection of biological samples and ex vivo biomarker analysis
* Research experience within autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases and basic understanding of PK/PD relationships
* Excellent hands-on in vivo skills within animal models of autoimmune diseases with a special focus on gut immunology and IBD (such as, naïve CD4+ T cell transfer, DSS, anti-CD40, TNBS…)
* Experience with cell isolation from lamina propria, flow cytometry and various cellular and molecular biology techniques for the measurement of proteins (ELISA, western blot, Meso Scale Discovery technology platform), and gene [removed]qRT-PCR)
* Experience of maintaining the highest standards of welfare and ethical compliance as well as ensuring the integrity of the data generated. Familiar with using Good Statistical Practice in animal research and applying the 3R's (reduction, refinement and replacement) across the full range of studies
* Excellent English written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills. You are organized and incorporate the views of others in your communication and collaboration

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

We are now looking for an ambitious postdoctoral scientist with a genuine interest in immunology to join the Thorén lab at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research at the University of Gothenburg. We offer a friendly and stimulating environment in a highly dynamic research area.

Subject area description 
In the Thorén lab we have a broad interest in human Natural killer (NK) cell biology. The research group comprises a mix of clinical and preclinical scientists and our research activities range from projects aiming at identifying novel NK cell receptor ligands to clinical immunotherapy trials. The postdoc will be part of the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research which comprises 20-25 research groups focusing on different aspects of cancer biology.

 

Duties 
The project involves fundamental assays of immune cell function as well as cutting edge technologies, such as single-cell RNA sequencing combined with oligo-conjugated mAbs, high-dimensional flow cytometry and CRISPR screens. The successful candidate will work closely together with preclinical and clinical colleagues, bioinformaticians etc and excellent communication skills are essential.

 
Eligibility 
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg. 

 

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made. 

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Assessment criteria 
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a doctoral degree in a relevant subject and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.  The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communications skills and capacity to work both independently and together in teams. Fluency in English is a requirement.

Eligible applicants will be ranked based on relevance of research background and publication record. Interviews will be held with top-ranked applicants to assess language proficiency, communication skills and analytical skills and personal suitability. The ideal candidate has experience in above-mentioned technologies, such as multidimensional flow cytometry, CRISPR methodology and multi-omics data generation and analysis etc.

We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate to join Anna Lundgren´s research group at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Gothenburg for studies of vaccine induced immune responses in humans. The group investigates immune responses to a new oral vaccine against enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) bacteria and to covid-19 vaccines. The postdoctoral candidate will participate in an ongoing project to evaluate how different vaccines, vaccine formulations and immunodeficiencies can influence immune responses and establishment of long-lived immunological memory.

Subject area description
There is a need for vaccines against many infectious diseases. Our group is particularly interested in developing a vaccine against diarrhea caused by ETEC bacteria, which is currently lacking. The vaccine will benefit infants and small children in low- and middle-income countries, where the infection is prevalent, but also travelers to these countries. Our group is also studying immune responses to covid-19 vaccines. In order to develop effective new vaccines, it is important to gain knowledge about immunological mechanisms that contribute to long-lived protective immunity after vaccination. It is therefore essential to analyze both primary immune responses and development of immunological memory after administration of new vaccines and to identify biomarkers of long-lived immunity.

Job assignments
The postdoctoral candidate is expected to work in a collaborative environment, including researchers and clinicians at the University of Gothenburg and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and an industrial partner. The studies include both analysis of immune responses after administration of a new oral vaccine candidate against ETEC bacteria and vaccines against covid-19. Techniques that will be utilized include flow cytometry, cell culture, electrochemiluminescence and ELISA based assays. The job assignments include experimental work, establishment and validation of new laboratory methods, data analysis, organization of sample collections and results. The postdoctoral candidate is expected to write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and grant applications to support the project.

Ämnesbeskrivning
Klinisk epidemiologisk forskning på inflammatorisk tarmsjukdom (IBD) och celiaki. Studera miljöfaktorer under första levnadsåren som kan öka eller minska risken för senare IBD.

Arbetsuppgifter
Huvuduppgiften är att självständigt bedriva egen forskning, bidra till projektledning samt till andras forskning, allt i ett nära samarbete med kollegor av olika yrkesgrupper, inom ramen för projektet. Arbetet innefattar deltagande i alla delar av forskningsprocessen, men i synnerhet vetenskapligt skrivande (författare och medförfattare) och handledning av doktorander och studenter, men också bidra i vetenskapliga gruppmöten inom projektet, statistik och epidemiologisk analys, bidra till forskningsidéer, planering, anslagsansökningar.

Förutom uppgifter inom det aktuella forskningsprojektet kan även forskning inom andra IBD- och celiakirelaterade studier komma att ingå.

Behörighet
Behörig att anställas som postdoktor är den som innehar doktorsexamen i relevant ämnesområde. Eftersom anställning som postdoktor utgör en meriteringsanställning för juniora forskare, riktar vi oss till den som har en doktorsexamen som inte är äldre än tre år räknat från sista ansökningsdag.

Bedömningsgrund
Kandidaten måste ha en doktorsexamen inom epidemiologi-folkhälsa, statistik, eller liknande, med fokus på forskning på register- och kohortdata och god epidemiologisk grundkunskap. Erfarenhet av forskning med registerdata och/eller kohortdata. Goda kunskaper inom IBD/gastroenterologi, pediatrik, medicin, eller relaterade kliniska områden är ett krav.

Andra viktiga kvalifikationer är utmärkt förmåga att självständigt skriva sammanhängande vetenskaplig text och sammanfatta resultat på engelska, liksom förmåga att självständigt planera experiment, utföra statistisk och epidemiologisk analys. Utmärkta kunskaper i engelska, både skriftligt och verbalt, är nödvändigt. Kunskap i svenska eller annat nordiskt språk är meriterande.

Meriterande är tidigare forskning och/eller klinisk erfarenhet inom gastroenterologi (ex IBD, celiaki), pediatrik, eller medicin. Erfarenheter av de statistiska programmen R, STATA eller SAS och erfarenhet av register- och/eller kohortdata från Sverige eller andra nordiska länder är meriterande.

Vaccine Immunology Evaluation

Subject area description
The development of novel vaccines may be facilitated by a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of action of vaccines as it pertains to their interaction with the immune system. Recent advancements in development of 3D models of human mucosal tissues along with cutting edge immune read out assays are beginning to speed up vaccine research and development. Ali Harandi’s research group is currently involved in several European Commission-funded collaborative projects involving several partners from academia, Pharma and SMEs with the main objective of further enhancing our understanding of vaccine mechanisms of action and developing advanced assays to read out the immune responses induced by human pathogens and vaccines. The research is carried out by employing advanced immunological methods combined with cutting-edge omics technology and systems biology approaches.

Job assignments
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to conduct studies within one or more of the ongoing projects in the group. In particular, the postdoctoral fellow will conduct research on advanced serology assessment of exploratory human vaccines and pathogens and development of ex vivo urovaginal models and assays for herpes simplex virus type 2. This position may also partly includes coordination and management activities of ongoing research projects in the team.

A PhD in immunology or in one of the closely related fields , and hands on experience and expertise  in conventional serology, and cell culture techniques are required. Expertise in vaccine immunology research, and state-of-the art virus assays e.g., virus plaque assay and neutralization assay is a strong merit.  Prior experience in working with 3D human tissue and organoid models is also a merit, but not deemed as critical. The successful candidate is required to possess excellent communicative skills particularly regarding scientific communication in English, a high degree of autonomy as well as team working, a developed way of critical thinking, and a profound ability to meet the deliverables and milestones of large collaborative research projects.

A 4-month full time position is available within the research group led by Ali Harandi, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute for Biomedicine, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The overarching objective of the research activities in the group is systems analysis of responses to human vaccines and pathogens using cutting edge omics technology to understand the mode of action of vaccines and to discover biomarkers of immunity to human pathogens.

Job assignments
The development of novel vaccines may be facilitated by a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of action of vaccines or their individual components as they pertain to their interaction with the immune system. Recent developments in omics technologies powered by systems biology approaches have begun to improve our understanding on how pathogens and vaccines interrogate the host system at molecular level. The research group is currently involved in several European Commission-funded collaborative projects with the main objective to improve our understanding of vaccine mechanisms of action. The research is done by employing conventional immunological methods combined with cutting-edge omics technologies.

The Associate Researcher is expected to carry out experiments and analyze data. The job involves conducting experiments on human serum samples, collected after vaccination, related to miRNA profiling, evaluating antibody avidity and studying immunoglobulin allotypes.

Qualifications
A Master of Science degree with documented hands on experience and expertise in molecular biology, specifically the Bio-Layer Interferometry technology as well as techniques for studying circulating miRNA and human immunoglobulin allotypes. The successful candidate will also have excellent lab skills and documented ability to work successfully in a research group.

Mucosal biology

Subject area description
The gut is in many ways central to our perception of health and involves an intricate balance with the numerous microbes living in our intestine. The intestinal surface is covered by mucus as part of its protection and defects in the mucus system are associated with inflammatory disease. Mucus is produced and secreted by goblet cells that are found throughout the intestinal epithelium. Goblet cells are a heterogeneous cell population which we recently presented in Science (An intercrypt subpopulation of goblet cells is essential for colonic mucus barrier function) with various functions mostly not well understood. Job assignments
The work will include several different methods as ex vivo analysis of mucus on intestinal explants in a perfusion chamber using confocal microscopy. Expression of mRNA and protein in FACS sorted intestinal cells and different stainings of tissue are also key methods in the project. Different murine colitis models, human biopsies from healthy and inflamed patients and cultured cells will be used. The research environment among the Mucin Biology Groups provides good opportunities to collaborate with, and learn from experts in a range of experimental methods. The applicant should also contribute to this environment with skills and knowledge. The candidate is expected to conduct the experimental research in an independent manner and extensively contribute to project planning and evaluation.

Molecular Immunology

Subject area description
In the Thorén lab we have a broad interest in human Natural killer (NK) cell biology. The research group comprises a mix of clinical and preclinical scientists and our research activities range from projects aiming at identifying novel NK cell receptor ligands to clinical immunotherapy trials. 

Together with clinical collaboration partners at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have recently initiated a project focusing on the role of Natural killer cells (NK cells) in uveal melanoma – a disease entity where checkpoint inhibitors have largely failed to improve the outcome for patients.

Job assignments
The focus of the project is to explore the role of NK cells in uveal melanoma. The project involves fundamental assays of immune cell function as well as cutting edge technologies, such as single-cell RNA sequencing combined with oligo-conjugated mAbs, high-dimensional flow cytometry and CRISPR screens. The successful candidate will work closely together with preclinical and clinical colleagues, bioinformaticians etc and excellent communication skills are essential.

Subject area description
COVID19 pandemic is spreading at warping speed causing significant morbidity and mortality. Understanding immunological responses, longevity and dynamics of antigen-specific B and T cell responses after infection and vaccination in various patients’ cohorts will inform on vaccination policy and new, improved vaccine designs.

Job assignments
The postdoctoral fellow will work in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment. The goal of the project is to characterize immune responses in longitudinal COVID patients’ samples and longitudinal vaccination samples. Cohorts to be studied include patients with different disease severity, transplant patients, medical care personnel receiving vaccination, elderly patients and more.

The fellow will use a combination of multicolor flow cytometry, cell sorting, single cell RNA sequencing, CITE-sequencing, BCR and TCR sequencing.

Den biträdande forskaren förväntas utföra experiment och analysera data. Jobbet involverar att praktiskt utföra experiment på humana serumprover, insamlade efter vaccination, relaterat till miRNA-karaktärisering, utvärdering av antikroppsaviditet och studerande av immunoglobulin-allotyper. 

Kvalifikationer
En Master i naturvetenskap med dokumenterad praktisk erfarenhet av och kunskap om molekylärbiologi, särskilt Bio-Layer Interferometry technologi liksom tekniker för att studera cirkulerande miRNA och humana immunoglobulin-allotyper. Den sökande bör också ha utmärkt labvana och dokumenterad förmåga att framgångsrikt arbeta i en forskargrupp.

En 5-månaders heltidstjänst är ledig i forskargruppen som leds av Ali Harandi, Avdelningen för Mikrobiologi och Immunologi, Institutionen för Biomedicin, Sahlgrenska Akademin vid Göteborgs universitet, Sverige. Forskargruppens fokus är vaccinutvärdering, där stor vikt läggs på studier relaterade till nya immuniseringsstrategier samt vacciners och adjuvansers verkningsmekanismer. Gruppen har nära samarbete med flertalet andra universitet och institutioner internationellt.

Arbetsuppgifter
Utvecklingen av nya vacciner skulle kunna underlättas av en djupare förståelse för de verkningsmekanismer hos vacciner, eller dess beståndsdelar, som berör interaktionen med immunsystemet. Forskargruppen är för närvarande involverad i flera samarbetsprojekt som finansieras av Europakommissionen, där det huvudsakliga syftet är att fördjupa vår förståelse för vacciners verkningsmekanismer. Forskaren förväntas utföra experimentella studier inom ett eller flera av de pågående vaccinprojekten som finansieras av EU. Mer specifikt kommer forskaren vara involverad i forskning som avser att utvärdera vaccininducerat immunsvar i människa och djurmodeller, både genom traditionella immunologiska metoder samt omics (inklusive transcriptomics och mirnomics).

Kvalifikationer
En doktorsexamen i immunologi med dokumenterad erfarenhet av immunologiforskning, där expertis inom transcriptomics-analys av immunsvar kopplat till humana virus och vaccin, djurmodeller för virusinfektionssjukdomar, och virologiska analysmetoder är ett måste. Postdoktoral erfarenhet av utvärdering av vaccinsvar krävs. Kandidaten måste ha utmärkt kommunikationsförmåga, särskilt med avseende på vetenskaplig kommunikation på engelska, en hög grad av självständighet, ett utvecklat kritiskt tänkande, och en dokumenterad förmåga att arbete inom internationella/europeiska projekt.

As part of the team you will execute in vitro experiments as well as support analysis from both in vitro and in vivo studies to progress our drug discovery projects and publishable scientific insights. You are encouraged to actively take part in scientific discussion to add valuable input in experiment design, data interpretation to drive projects and techniques.

This is a lab-based role where you will be involved in multiple ongoing projects with responsibility to analyse samples from experiments from various cells and tissues for both in vitro-, in vivo- and patient studies. We are looking for someone with experience in culturing of primary cells, immunohistochemistry, immunoassays, protein and RNA analysis.

A Postdoctoral position is available in our laboratory department of Medical Chemistry and Cell Biology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Our group investigates the role of mucins during host defense against bacteria, and the biological function of changes in mucosal mucin expression and glycosylation associated with disease. We have shown that mucin glycans regulate pathogen virulence and growth, and the current project aims to collecting knowledge needed to use this to the benefit of the host.

The project aims to understand how mucus/mucins are regulated during infection, with fish and mouse as model systems.

Job assignments
Infection experiments in mouse/fish and in vitro mucosal surfaces, structural and functional analysis of mucins, mucin production and turnover, analysis of interactions between mucins and bacteria, expression of mRNA, protein and glycans, and how these factors affect downstream interactions with host cells.

Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.

The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Assessment
A successful candidate will be selected based on their: i) laboratory skills ii) background and knowledge in a relevant field (for example in mucosal immunology, innate immunity, microbiology, mucosal biology, microscopy), iii) oral and written communication skills in English, and iv) analytical ability.

Avdelningen för kirurgi bedriver klinisk och experimentell forskning vid Sahlgrenska universitetssjukhuset och vid Sahlgrenska akademin. Dessutom ansvarar avdelningen för undervisning vid flera program, bl.a. Läkarutbildningens kirurgitermin.

Forskningsgruppen, som söker en forskare som har sin huvudsakliga verksamhet vid VO Kirurgi/Östra och det sk Surgical Oncology Laboratory (SOL). Den tumörtyp som huvudsakligen studeras är kolorektal cancer och forskningen är inriktad på utveckling av folatbaserade läkemedel.

Arbetsuppgifter
Arbetet som forskare innebär att leda forskningsprojekt om folatmetabolism och det folatbaserade läkemedlet Modufolin. Vidare ska den sökande samverka med övriga forskare inom detta forskningsområde vid VO kirurgi/Östra samt med extern industripartner.

Kvalifikationer
Sökanden ska vara minst docent och ha betydande erfarenhet inom cancerforskning och läkemedelsstudier vid kolorektal cancer. Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper, avdelningen för kirurgi, vid Sahlgrenska akademin söker en forskare i cancerforskning med placering i Sahlgrenska Translational Melanoma Group (www.satmeg.se) på Sahlgrenska Cancer Center. Forskargruppen har ett tydligt mål att överföra kunskap från grundforskning så att denna kan omsättas till innovativa kliniska prövningar med nya behandlingsprinciper mot malignt melanom.

Arbetsuppgifter
Tjänsten som forskare är kopplad till ett forskningsprojekt som fokuserar på att utveckla och utvärdera CAR-T-terapi mot melanom. Arbetsuppgifter som ingår är projektmonitorering av prekliniska studier i cellodling och försöksdjur, eget arbete I GMP-labb samt samarbete med kliniskt verksam personal på Sahlgrenska sjukhuset.

Kvalifikationer
Behörig att anställas som forskare är den som innehar doktorsexamen i relevant ämnesområde, såsom cell- och molekylärbiologi eller immunologi. Tidigare postdocerfarenhet är starkt meriterande. Vi vill att du har kunskap om cancer och tidigare erfarenhet av praktiskt laborativt arbete inom immunologi och/eller cancerforskning. På institutionen för biomedicin bedrivs forskning och undervisning inom prekliniska och kliniska medicinska ämnen. Institutionen är indelad i följande fyra avdelningar: infektionssjukdomar, mikrobiologi och immunologi, medicinsk kemi och cellbiologi samt laboratoriemedicin. För närvarande har institutionen cirka 370 medarbetare och cirka 400 Mkr i omsättning.

Inflammatoriska tarmsjukdomar (IBD), är relativt vanliga sjukdomar hos befolkningen i västvärlden. Orsaken till dessa sjukdomar är oklar, men senare tids forskning tyder på att patienterna har en obalanserad immunologisk aktivitet i tarmkanalens slemhinna tillsammans med en förändrad sammansättning av tarmbakterier.

I detta projekt ska immunopatogenes vid ulcerös kolit studeras. Projektet avser särskilt att studera effekten av luminala substanser på makrofager in vitro för att förstå varför patienter drabbas av återfall.

Arbetsuppgifter
Projektet involverar många laboratoriebaserade metoder såsom isolering och odling av humana celler ifrån blod, flödescytometri, PCR-arrayer, ELISA och spektrofluorometri.

Kvalifikationer
Mastersexamen i relevant ämnesområde. Tidigare erfarenhet av forskning om tarmslemhinnans immunsystem är meriterande. Erfarenhet av arbete med isolering och odling av humana celler, särskilt makrofager, PCR arrayer och spektrofluorometri med SpectraMax Gemini EM är ett krav. Tidigare visad förmåga att arbeta självständigt värderas högt.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology within the Institute of Biomedicine has a long history of research in mucosal immunology with emphasis on immunology of the gastrointestinal tract and vaccine development. Immunological responses underlying intestinal diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel diseases and colon cancer, as well as inflammation, hematopoiesis, cellular ageing and immune responses to vaccination are areas of research in the Department. The Department consists of 16 research groups with 70 scientists, students, postdocs and technical staff working within the different projects.

Job assignments
The main task is to design and execute experiments on immune cells from human samples including intestinal tissue blood. Cells will be prepared from the human tissue and cell function will be analyzed and using immunological assays such as multi-color (> 10) flow cytometry and cell sorting, transcription analyses, proteome analyses, cytokine assays (multiplex and ELISA) and in vitro cellular assays. Data will be analyzed and compiled for presentations and manuscripts

Qualifications
To qualify as a researcher, the application must hold a PhD in a relevant subject such as immunology, inflammation or related area. Experience in immunological analysis of human intestinal and blood cells, multicolor flow cytometry (> 10 simultaneously) and cell sorting, transcription analysis using the Nanostring platform, human cell culture and cytokine analysis using ELISA and multiplex arrays is necessary. You must have the ability to work independently and have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Experience using Diva and FlowJo software, analysis of nCounter transcription data and statistical analysis of data using Prism is required. Knowledge of R-program language is a merit.

We are seeking a highly motivated, academically excellent and proactive Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong background in innate immunity to study the relation between the macrophage biology and metabolism, and to further develop this research area in the recently established Anetta Härtlova lab (https://wcmtm.gu.se/research-groups/hartlova-group).










 

Subject area description
Macrophages are key innate players driving inflammation, repair and resolution. Recently, metabolic state has been shown to be an important determinant for the switch between different macrophage phenotypes. Pro-inflammatory responses are in general dependent on glycolytic, rapid energy sources whilst resolution responses are more long lasting and generally dependent on oxidative lipid metabolism. In this project, we will investigate metabolic regulation of macrophages and how macrophage fitness contribute to the development of chronic diseases. This project is built on our recent work that unravel the role of macrophage scavenger receptor 1 (MSR1) in macrophage polarization (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31028084).

Job assignments
The successful appointee will have the opportunity to develop their research career in a laboratory with a strong emphasis on training and mentorship. There will be opportunities to for the successful appointee to supervise postgraduate students and to apply for their own research funding. A broad skill base, including molecular (qRT-PCR, CRISPR-CAS9 technology) and cellular biology (isolation of mouse primary macrophages, IPSC-derived macvrophages, biochemistry (Immunoprecipitation, Western blotting), immunological assays (ELISA) and mass spectrometry-based proteomics is required.

Mass spectrometry specialist in inflammasome research

Subject area description
Upon activation, the inflammasome rapidly forms a highly dense multiprotein complex that we can biochemically isolate and characterize. The molecular mechanisms of aggregation, the composition of the protein complex and its integration into cellular structures, the mode of activation of the present zymogens, as well as the mechanisms of the ensuing unconventional secretion of IL-1beta remain elusive. The successful candidate will investigate different facets of inflammasome biology in human IBD patient-derived epithelial and innate immune cells. The long-term goal of our work is to understand the underlying mechanisms of inflammasome activity in specific cell types in the human intestine in order to identify new avenues for IBD therapy.

The goal of the research group is to further elucidate the rules of T, B cell and antibody responses with the overarching goal of improving current influenza vaccination. The postdoctoral project will build on recent mechanistic finding on B cell immunodominance and will aim at further characterizing the influence of pre-existing immunity on subsequent responses and at defining transcriptional signatures driving immunodominance.

Job assignments
The successful candidate is expected to work independently, give critical input to the project and design experiments together with the supervisor. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible to carry out animal research, immunizations, use influenza in vivo and in vitro models and in vitro testing to evaluate specificity and functions of immune cells. The methods that are going to be used include in vivo mouse models, flow cytometry, ELISa and RNA sequencing.
