Position summary:
We are looking for a motivated bioprocess engineer to work on optimizing bioprocesses for production of microbial lipids. Successful applicants will be involved in evaluation of yeast strains in bioreactors, development and optimization of bioprocess, laboratory and pilot scale sample production, process scale-up and DSP development. The position is largely hands-on laboratory work, but may also involve organizational tasks and supervision.
Our ideal candidate should have a strong track record in developing and running microbial bioprocesses, as well as exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for using science & technology to solve tough challenges. The candidate should also be comfortable working in the dynamic environment of a start-up company, troubleshooting challenging projects, and meeting tight deadlines.
Occasionally, some activities may require working outside of standard working hours. The position will likely require travel within Sweden and abroad.


Responsibilities and tasks:
Plan, set up, and run routine fermentations at lab and pilot scale to generate material for application testing and customer samples
Assist in the design, development, and optimization of bioprocesses to improve strain performance
Support scale?up activities, including modelling, down?scaling studies, tech transfer packages, and risk assessment
Support external manufacturing partners on site to supervise process validation and production runs
Support the optimization and implementation of downstream processes
Work closely with strain engineering, analytics, product development, and commercial teams to align on goals and deliverables
Ensure accurate documentation of process parameters, deviations, and batch results.
Prepare technical reports, SOPs, and presentations
Assist in identifying and securing IPR



Job requirements
Required qualifications:
Candidates should hold an Msc or PhD in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or a similar field
3+ years of hands-on experience in bioprocess development and/or operations, preferably with yeasts
Strong expertise with different bioprocesses, including batch, fed-batch, and continuous processes
Familiarity with DSP unit operations (e.g., filtration, centrifugation, extraction, phase separation, chromatography)
Experience with the modelling/simulation of bioprocesses
Strong understanding of bioprocess fundamentals (e.g. mass/energy balances, oxygen transfer, scale?up principles, and process control)
Excellent organizational and time management skills
High attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality documentation
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, experimental environment
Strong team spirit and excellent collaboration skills
Preferably authorized to work in Sweden (Sweden/EU citizen or permanent resident)

Experience in scaling up processes from lab to pilot, demo, and/or commercial scale

Support with development of Melt&Marble;’s fats for applications in product sectors such as alternative meat, dairy and chocolate/confectionary.
Support customers and partners with technical expertise during joint development projects, including application and process advice, how to highlight the value of our products, and troubleshooting
Develop application prototypes to find and showcase the functionality and value of our fats and produce data/figures relevant to customers
Build and run Quality systems and processes for our food products pipeline (methods, documentation, routines for product consistency), including both hands-on work and coordination with external testing partners.
Support processes of regulatory compliance for novel food ingredient commercialization, including FDA GRAS, EFSA Novel Foods, and in the future international quality standards.
Collaborate with external labs or partners when needed for testing or validation.
Maintain records and contribute to regulatory documentation as needed.

Position summary:
We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and experienced lab manager to manage our new microbiology, molecular biology, and fermentation labs. Successful applicants will be responsible for ensuring smooth running of Melt&Marble;’s labs and proactively support all aspects of the lab’s research, including procuring materials (equipment, reagents) and ensuring safe and efficient operation.

Responsibilities and tasks:
Overall responsibility for Melt&Marble;’s labs to ensure smooth lab organization and efficient operations, and compliance with all applicable regulations
Ensure a safe, clean, and hygienic work environment, including creating, implementing, and updating safety routines and guidelines, creating and reviewing risk assessments, etc.
Coordination with Melt&Marble;’s suppliers and service providers, including negotiation of supply agreements and discounts
Procuring instruments and ensuring their proper use, maintenance, and repair, including coordination with third parties when needed
Organization and purchasing of chemicals and consumables
Support the research team by preparation of stocks of media and reagents, preparation of samples for analytics, and assistance with QC/A
Organization of shipment of materials and goods
Creating and updating relevant laboratory SOPs
Supervision of lab supporting personnel and organization of lab duties
Establishing of training protocols and onboarding of new employees



Job requirements
Required qualifications:
Bsc or Msc in biotechnology, bioengineering, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering or a similar field; or relevant training as a laboratory technician
5+ years working in a research lab that does research in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, fermentation or a related field (preferably as a research technician, research engineer, or lab manager)
Knowledge of standard laboratory safety regulations and laboratory practices, preferably documented
Experience in safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and materials
Experience with procuring of and maintaining inventories of instruments, chemicals, and consumables
Experience in preparation of buffers, media, reagents, etc.
Experience in working with microorganisms and using sterile technique
Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to work well with others (colleagues and supervisors)
Demonstrated leadership/management experience (e.g. having previous supervisory roles)

Job requirements
Required qualifications:

We are looking for a motivated scientist with solid experience in lipid chemistry to work on application development for Melt&Marble;’s fats. You will be our in-house expert on fat/oil functionality and part of our new food science division, working together with 2-3 colleagues. Solid familiarity with standard methods for lipid studies (e.g. AOCS)
Deep understanding of lipid chemistry, including thermal behaviour, oxidation/degradation, crystallization behaviour, and behaviour in food matrices (interactions with proteins & other lipids, water, hydrocoloids, etc.)
Experience with analytical methods and instruments to assess lipid quality (e.g. PV, AV, IV, etc.) and composition (e.g. GC-MS/FID, HPLC, lipidomics, etc.)
Experience with methods to assess lipid thermal behaviour (e.g. DSC, NMR)
Excellent organizational and time management skills
