Position summary:
We are looking for a motivated bioprocess engineer to work on optimizing bioprocesses for production of microbial lipids. Successful applicants will be involved in evaluation of yeast strains in bioreactors, development and optimization of bioprocess, laboratory and pilot scale sample production, process scale-up and DSP development. The position is largely hands-on laboratory work, but may also involve organizational tasks and supervision.
Our ideal candidate should have a strong track record in developing and running microbial bioprocesses, as well as exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for using science & technology to solve tough challenges. The candidate should also be comfortable working in the dynamic environment of a start-up company, troubleshooting challenging projects, and meeting tight deadlines.

Responsibilities and tasks:
Plan, set up, and run routine fermentations at lab and pilot scale to generate material for application testing and customer samples
Assist in the design, development, and optimization of bioprocesses to improve strain performance
Support scale?up activities, including modelling, down?scaling studies, tech transfer packages, and risk assessment
Support external manufacturing partners on site to supervise process validation and production runs
Support the optimization and implementation of downstream processes
Work closely with strain engineering, analytics, product development, and commercial teams to align on goals and deliverables
Ensure accurate documentation of process parameters, deviations, and batch results.
Prepare technical reports, SOPs, and presentations
Assist in identifying and securing IPR



Job requirements
Required qualifications:
Candidates should hold an Msc or PhD in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or a similar field
3+ years of hands-on experience in bioprocess development and/or operations, preferably with yeasts
Strong expertise with different bioprocesses, including batch, fed-batch, and continuous processes
Familiarity with DSP unit operations (e.g., filtration, centrifugation, extraction, phase separation, chromatography)
Experience with the modelling/simulation of bioprocesses
Strong understanding of bioprocess fundamentals (e.g. mass/energy balances, oxygen transfer, scale?up principles, and process control)
Excellent organizational and time management skills
High attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality documentation
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, experimental environment
Strong team spirit and excellent collaboration skills

Required qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
10+ years of experience in business development and/or sales in the personal care/cosmetics ingredients industry.
Strong existing network within personal care (ideally across both multinational and indie brands).
Proven track record of building partnerships and driving revenue in a science-driven environment.
Good understanding of the role of different ingredients in cosmetic formulations.

You will be part of our newly established food science team and work alongside 2-3 colleagues on product characterization and application development (primarily in meat and dairy analogues). As one of the first employees in the food science division, you will have a strong influence on the application development direction at Melt&Marble;, and will work cross-functionally with the other teams in the company to define further product iterations and help guide commercial strategy.

Job requirements
Required qualifications:
Bsc/Msc/PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, Agricultural Sciences, or another relevant subject

Background:
Melt&Marble; (meltandmarble.com) is a start-up company on a mission to boost the growth of the plant-based food industry by providing it with the best and tastiest fats, for both consumers and the planet. We do this by using precision fermentation. By engineering microbial metabolism, we can dictate the structure and properties of the fats that our microbes are producing, allowing us to mimic any fat structure, as well as create completely new and better fats. This results in sustainable vegan fats that can mimic the sensory experience of animal fats, bridging the taste gap between animal-based foods and plant-based alternatives.


Position summary:
We are looking for a motivated and experienced food scientist to work on application development for Melt&Marble;’s fats. As Head of Food Science, you will be responsible for building our food science team, including the recruitment and supervision of additional food scientists.
Our ideal candidate should have a strong track record in development and formulation of food products, exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for using science & technology to solve tough challenges. The candidate should also be comfortable working in the dynamic environment of a start-up company, troubleshooting challenging projects, and meeting tight deadlines.
Occasionally, some activities may require working outside of standard working hours. The position might require travel within Sweden and abroad.


Responsibilities and tasks:
Build and manage the product development program at Melt&Marble;, including recruitment and supervision of personnel, and setting up a food lab
Coordinate relevant collaborations with academia and CROs for food product development
Define target product specifications
Drive product formulation and applications development
Develop regulatory strategies for submissions to regulatory agencies, coordinate and manage regulatory activities
Keep track of innovation and potential IP and assist in securing relevant IP rights
Coordinate with the other teams in the company to ensure delivery on major organizational milestones



Required qualifications:
Msc/PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, or another relevant subject
>6 years of relevant technical experience in developing and formulation of food products, preferably meat analogues, and preferably in a commercial setting
Strong understanding of ingredient functionality and flavour chemistry
Solid understanding of lipid chemistry and the structure-function relationship for fats & oils in food applications
Excellent organizational and project management skills



Bonus points:
Work experience with fats and oils in various food applications
Experience with advanced food/fat analytics (e.g. melting profile, flavour/aroma profiling, etc.)
Experience with designing and conducting sensory testing
Good understanding of current food regulations (Novel Foods, GRAS, etc.)
Experience with development of intellectual property

Position summary:
We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and experienced research scientist to work on developing yeast cell factories for production of microbial lipids. Successful applicants will be responsible for the design, construction, and evaluation of yeast strains. The position is largely hands-on laboratory work, but may also involve supervision of others.
Our ideal candidate should have a strong track record in microbial engineering, exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for using science to solve tough challenges. The candidate should also be comfortable taking ownership of their projects, working in the dynamic environment of a start-up company, troubleshooting challenging projects, and meeting tight deadlines.

Responsibilities and tasks:
Designing metabolic engineering strategies for lipid production projects
Construction and evaluation of the performance parameters of engineered yeast strains
Optimization of engineering tools and experimental workflows
Maintenance of detailed records of scientific experiments
Preparation of technical reports, SOPs, and presentations
Supervision of research assistants
Maintenance of an in-depth knowledge of the latest advances in relevant fields
Participation in scientific meetings and conferences
Coordination of activities with external stakeholders



Required qualifications:
Candidates should hold a PhD degree in biotechnology, bioengineering, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering or a similar field
Excellent understanding of microbial metabolism
>4 years experience working on microbial engineering projects
Strong background in the usage of microbiology and molecular biology methods
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Experience in supervision, teaching, and/or training others



Bonus points:
1-3 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience
Experience with metabolic engineering projects
Experience with engineering yeasts
Experience with engineering lipid metabolism
Experience with analytics- particularly lipid analytics
Experience with cultivating microorganisms in bioreactors
Experience with using genome-scale metabolic models, bioinformatics or analysis of OMICS data
Authorization to work in Sweden (Swedish/EU citizenship or permanent residence permit)
