Beskrivning av uppdraget 
Uppdraget är att undersöka bakomliggande orsakerna till de upprepade krascherna av undervattensvegetationen och efterföljande minskning av antalet rastande fåglar i Torslandaviken i Göteborgs stad.

Bakgrund
Torsviken är utpekat som ett Natura 2000 område enligt EU:s fågeldirektiv. Området är av stor betydelse för rastande och övervintrande fåglar särskilt för brushane, salskrake, sångsvan, bergand, vigg och knipa. Det pågår även ett arbete inom Göteborgs stad med att bilda ett naturreservat av Torslandaviken. Resultatet av examensarbetet kan komma att bli ett viktigt underlag till reservatsbildningen och vid utformningen av skötselplanen. 

I mitten av 2000-talet minskade antalet rastande och övervintrande fåglar i Torsviken. Detta bedömdes hänga samman med en minskning av undervattensvegetationen vilket medförde ett försämrat födounderlag för de rastande fåglarna. 

För att få bättre kunskap om området tog Länsstyrelsen fram ett kontrollprogram för området. Syftet var att följa utvecklingen i området under perioden 2013 ? 2019 och därigenom ge ett bättre underlag för en bedömning av områdets status och de eventuella åtgärder som kan behöva genomföras för att bibehålla värdet för de utpekade fågelarterna. När kontrollprogrammet avslutades hade områdets undervattensvegetation återhämtat sig. I den utvärdering som gjordes 2022 bedömdes att bevarandestatusen var positiv för fyra av de utpekade fågelarterna och negativ för två (sångsvan och brushane). De senaste åren har dock undervattensvegetationen återigen minskat drastiskt med följd att de utpekade fågelarterna också minskat. Orsakerna till förändringarna med de upprepade krascherna av undervattensvegetationen och antalet rastande fåglar är i dagsläget okända. Beror de på påverkan från fisk i området (framför allt bottenätande vitfiskar), hänger de samman med salthaltsvariationer och vattenregimen, är det fåglarna som styr eller en kombination av flera faktorer? Kanske är det vi ser i Torsviken bara vad man kan förvänta sig i ett isolerat vattenområde med begränsad areal och vattendjup eller finns det åtgärder som bör göras för att undvika upprepade krascher? 

Förutsättningar för uppdraget 
Detta uppdrag vänder sig till dig som studerar på masternivå och vill skriva ett examensarbete med inriktning mot limnologi, biologi eller motsvarade.  

Göteborgs stad (Stadsbyggnadsförvaltningen) kan erbjuda en extern handledare men för uppdraget krävs en huvudhandledare från Universitet/Högskolan.  

Studenten/studenterna förväntas arbeta på distans men fysiska möten med stadsbyggnadsförvaltningen och fältbesök kan bli aktuellt vid behov.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The role holder will contribute to the DPD organisation applying their expertise in the complex and regulated GMP environment. Be responsible for writing of GMP and SHE procedures within own skill areas and will be responsible for related training and compliance activities. Job requirements
Required qualifications:

In this project we will thoroughly map and measure a variety of physiological stress indicators in fish. This will be done by analysing electroencephalography (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) measurements in close collaboration with our industrial partners.

• As a Scientist you will be a vital member of the in vivo community and will contribute to the development and characterization of pre-clinical models of autoimmune and/or respiratory diseases to discover novel therapeutics.

Qualifications
Essential for the role:
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in relevant subjects or equivalent level of understanding developed through experience in academia or drug discovery settings.
• Valid education required for compliance to work with live animals in Sweden. (LAS, FELASA)
• Several years of hands-on experience with rodents including live animal handling, drug administration through different routes, blood and organ sampling and processing (spleen, lymph nodes, intestine).
• Ability to organize, execute and interpret the results from in vivo studies according to study plans in agreement with the team leader or other colleagues.
• Hands-on knowledge and ability to use in vitro methods (ELISA, western blot and/or qRT-PCR) to analyze ex vivo samples generated from in vivo studies. (3).
• Ability to design panels and run flow cytometry as well as analyzing generated data
• Experience of maintaining the highest standards of welfare and ethical compliance and ensuring the integrity of the generated data. Familiar with using Good Statistical Practice in animal research and applying the 3R’s (reduction, refinement and replacement) across the full range of studies.
• Excellent English written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.
• Strong organization skills and wiliness to incorporate the views of others in your communication and collaboration.

Desirable for the role:
• Good written and oral communication skills in Swedish and experience in writing ethical applications for animal work in Sweden.
• Understanding of autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases with a specific focus on gut immunology.
• Experience with animal models of respiratory diseases (mainly COPD and IPF) and in vivo PK/PD relationships.

Information om avdelningen
Avdelningen för System- och syntetisk biologi (SysBio) på Chalmers är en tvärvetenskaplig och internationell arbetsmiljö med 12 forskargrupper och >110 anställda och studenter. Vi arbetar med grundläggande frågor inom biologi och utvecklar tillämpningar inom bioteknik och biomedicin. Exempel på forskningsområden verksamma vid SysBio är: molekylärbiologi, mikrobiologi, biokemi, beräkningsbiologi, nanoteknik och metabolomics. Beskrivning av tjänsten
Ditt arbete kommer att innefatta tekniskt stöd och support till forskningsverksamheten i våtlabb som till exempel att upprätthålla drift av instrument och laboratorier, vara ett generellt stöd i labbets funktioner, inventera och beställa kemikalier och förbrukningsvaror, ta hand om leveranser av varor, uppdatera rutiner, samt enklare underhåll och felsökning av instrument och instrumentdatorer.

About The Position:
We are looking for a detail-oriented person to join our cell manufacturing team. The role is laboratory-based and the selected candidate is expected to work in our team for stem cell based manufacturing activities, mainly in our GMP facility but also in our research grade laboratory when required. What you will do:
This is a senior lab-based role with focus to support our drug discovery projects with quantitative measurements of intracellular protein levels and their turnover to understand response to treatment. Contingent Worker Role Descriptors – Covid-19 Assessment Laboratory Scientist (CL C/D)
This facility will be used for high throughput screening for COVID-19 screening of AstraZeneca Key Workers.

Staff within this laboratory will be expected to work a shift pattern to enable 16 hours a day operation across 5 days a week – Tuesday to Saturday and some weeks Mondays as well.
Hours are 7am-4pm, 8:30am-5:30pm or 12pm-9pm in a shifted pattern.

About the position
This role covers responsibilities in three main areas: the Sample Handling and the Molecular Biology Laboratories. Applicants flex across both areas as well as Data Analysis. The Lab Scientists are responsible for all process stages from arrival of human assessment specimens (saliva) at the sample handling labs to the transfer of virally inactivated samples to the adjacent molecular biology labs. This work is performed in the Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL2) containment facilities with appropriate PPE. The work in Molecular Biology Laboratories consists of all process stages from fully automated RNA extraction and RT-PCR workflows, data analysis and delivery of PCR based results. This work is performed at Biological Safety Level 1 (BSL1) laboratory with appropriate PPE. Applicants should be comfortable performing this process while using PPE.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include: visually inspecting specimens for packaging integrity (correct intact number of barrier layers, no evidence of leakage/spillage); assessment suitability (e.g., rejecting samples not properly labelled, containing foreign matter, incorrect volumes etc.); ensuring they are accounted for on the specimen manifest; following inspection, scanning into LIMS system; and transfer to racks for further processing in suitably contained liquid handling automation. Tube to plate transfer, sample lysis and inactivation will be performed on the automation, and once completed the plates will be transferred to the adjacent molecular biology laboratories. On occasion this process may be run manually requiring experience with manual pipetting. The operation of Beckman I series robotics to perform automated magnetic bead RNA extraction procedures; tracking samples through the LIMS system; RT-PCR reaction setup including manual pipetting as well as automated plate preparation using benchtop automation equipment; setting up molecular assays on qPCR instruments; analysis of results and transference to Data/QC analysts for subsequent downstream analysis and data reporting. Individuals will receive full technical and safety training for this whole process which will be performed to strictly defined COVID-19 laboratory SOPs.

Key Requirements for this role:
• Work in BSL2 lab with previous experience of aseptic technique.
• Work in BSL1 lab with previous experience of automation and molecular biology techniques preferred.

Essential for the role:

Arbetsuppgifter

Kvalifikationer

About the Opportunity

In this role, we're looking for a postdoc to employ state of the art cell biology approaches to study protein degradation using PROTACs (PROteasomal TArgeting Chimeras). The aim of this work is to link PROTAC intracellular degradation efficiency to PROTAC binding properties such as affinity and binding kinetics as well as ternary complex formation, stability, and cooperativity.

You will join the Mechanistic and Structural Biology department at AstraZeneca, which has accumulated extensive experience in assessing and characterising molecular interactions in both biochemical/biophysical and cellular settings. Having the opportunity to collaborate with Associate Professor Mikael Altun at Karolinska Institute, a leading expert in protein degradation, is one of the many perks of this position.

Not only will this work help to further advance the fundamental understanding of PROTAC mechanism of action, but could also aid in the development of new and better PROTACs based on the findings from this study. The primary goal is to publish those findings in high impact journals.

This Postdoc position allows for a high level of control and influence over the project and ample opportunities to learn new technical, as well as leadership skills. You will also work in collaboration with people from many different fields within and across the AstraZeneca PROTACs community.

Essential Education and Experience

* PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, or related field
* Proven expertise in running cell assays compatible with monitoring protein degradation (like Immunofluorescence or similar) and by utilising current state-of-the-art approaches
* Possess a strong background of relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals
* A strong interest in understanding highly complex biological processes mechanistically

Desirable Qualifications

* Experience in working with PROTACs
* Experience in using biophysical techniques, such as SPR or ITC, to monitor protein-protein and protein-small molecule interactions

What you will do:

The role is focused on laboratory-based activities. Your biggest impact will be through significant contributions to the practical delivery to projects in compliance with AstraZeneca corporate responsibility, policies and relevant safety standards.

* Culture and differentiate hPSC lines to skeletal and cardiac muscle.
* Culture human primary cells and various mammalian cell lines.

Vi söker en doktorand till vår nya grupp vid inst. för kemi och molekylärbiologi inom ramen för Wallenbergcentrum för molekylär och translationell medicin vid Göteborgs universitet.

Glykaner eller komplexa kolhydrater utgör kapseln av bakterier, svampar, såväl som växtceller, och omger alla typer av biomolekyler som proteiner, lipider eller RNA. Den specifika glykansekvensen som är fysiskt bunden till ett protein, förändrar i grunden dess egenskaper och kapacitet, finjusterade stabilitet, struktur och funktion. Vi visade nyligen att - med hjälp av maskininlärning - kan denna rika information utnyttjas för att förutsäga glykanegenskaper och i sin tur egenskaper hos de organismer som uppvisar dessa glykaner. Detta öppnar potentialen för att glykobiologi kan bidra till ny förståelse och möjliggöra framtida biomedicinska terapier.

I detta projekt kommer vi att använda syntetisk biologi / genteknik för att förstå och modifiera glykanernas roll i biologiska system. This is an exciting role where you will act as a key member in various project teams to provide your expertise into formulation development and design within the new modality and advanced drug delivery portfolio of peptides, oligonucleotides and RNA based therapeutics, with emphasis on parental formulation development. You will contribute to developing and selecting lead enabling formulations and to defining drug product design to ensure desired clinical performance in projects spanning pre-clinical to Phase II development. Furthermore, the role covers contribution to regulatory submissions, coordination of GxP/non-GxP drug product manufacturing and outsourcing efforts, as well as involvement in internal and external scientific initiatives.

As such, we are looking for a candidate with previous experience in supporting formulation development of biomolecules (e.g., peptides, oligonucleotides, RNA), preferably in the clinical drug development phase, and who has knowledge of physical chemistry, biopharmaceutics and drug delivery to enable a mechanistic understanding of in vivo drug product performance. The role will be expected to work cross-functionally supporting drug projects from early to late clinical phase and in collaboration with other formulators, analysts, chemists and biologists at AstraZeneca in Sweden, UK and US.

What you will do:
In this position we rely you to design genome editing-based strategies and tools, required to generate in vivo and in vitro reagents to create disease models. To perform genetic screens in vitro and in vivo using genome editing tools and target validation studies in early projects. As well as perform complete confirmation assays of genetic manipulation and functional validation of engineered animals.

You will also mentor and support more junior scientists by advising and challenging them and providing expert advice to aid interpretation of complex data. You will provide disciplinary scientific leadership and represent the department at internal interdisciplinary meetings in addition to external meetings and to publish novel science in high impact journals.

Essential requirements:
You should have a Ph.D. degree or corresponding experience in a relevant scientific field with experience in drug discovery or, alternatively, a first degree and proven experience in drug discovery.

* Molecular biology expertise and experience of working with mouse embryonic stem cells.
* Working knowledge of the latest precise genome engineering tools both in vitro and in vivo.

We are now looking to recruit a strong Scientist with a drive for innovation and idea generation as well as excellent laboratory skills to join the Bioscience In vivo Department within the Early Respiratory and Immunology R&D unit located in Gothenburg, Sweden. Depending on your experience this position would be on a Senior Research Scientist or Associated Principal Scientist level.

Respiratory & Immunology is one of AstraZeneca's main therapy areas. From a research perspective we work to understand, treat, modify and ultimately cure respiratory disease with an emphasis on four diseases with significant unmet medical need; asthma, COPD, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and Chronic Cough.

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated team that works closely together with other departments focusing on Target Translational Science, Bioscience In vitro assays and Drug Metabolism/Pharmacokinetics to support discovery projects and to drive new exciting research. What you'll do

As part of the team you will plan and execute experiments to progress our drug discovery projects and generate publishable scientific insights. You will actively take part in scientific discussions to add valuable input in experimental design and data interpretation.

This is a partly lab-based role where you will be involved in ongoing projects focusing on pre-clinical experiments using the antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) technology, with responsibility to design, perform and analyse in vivo and in vitro experiments as well as presenting and discussing data and scientific rationales. We are looking for someone with experience in animal hands-on work and advanced skills in cellular- and molecular biology techniques.

We will rely on you to:

* Be an effective and innovative team member in supporting drug discovery projects to meet their objectives
* To conduct where appropriate in parallel more than one area of work to agreed timelines
* Be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical compliance as well as data integrity
* Write ethical applications for animal work
* Be in vivo lead for in vivo studies in support of pre-clinical discovery/early development projects. In this lead role you will design and perform in vivo experiments to study new drug candidates and contribute to the development of disease-relevant in vivo models in collaboration with colleagues
* Work alongside committed in vivo scientists and perform hands-on in vivo work
* Be responsible for the analysis of mediators in several matrixes from in vivo studies
* Contribute to the evaluation and interpretation of primary data and write reports, summaries and present in meetings
* Contribute to writing peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and poster

Essential for the role

* PhD in a relevant discipline (area of Bioscience)
* Relevant experimental in vivo experience in the use of animal models, animal handling and in vivo techniques (e.g. administration of compounds to the lung, lung function measurements)
* Experience in various cellular and molecular biology techniques for the measurement of protein expression and activation (eg ELISA,western blot, FACS, Meso Scale Discovery (MSD) technology platform), and RNA (qRT-PCR, RNASeq)
* Ability to independently design, perform and analyse in vivo experiments in rodents and interpret experimental data
* Extensive understanding of pharmacology, physiology and immunology
* Understanding and experience with molecular biology
* Understanding of statistical methods, quality control and data reporting/archiving

In addition, you possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English as well as great problem-solving skills related to in vivo research and data analysis. You have a positive and goal oriented attitude. You are organized and incorporates the views of others in your communication and collaboration.

Desirable for the role

* Experience/knowledge in the field of antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) delivery technology
* Valid education required for compliance to work with live animals in Sweden
* Experience in writing ethical applications for animal work in Sweden
* Knowledge in immunohistochemistry, histology scoring and histomorphometry
* Respiratory disease knowledge, including target and mechanism knowledge (COPD, asthma, cough, IPF, tissue regeneration) and basic understanding of Pharmacokinetics
* Good written and oral communication skills in Swedish

Arbetsuppgifter
Vi söker två (2) medarbetare för skötsel av våra zebrafiskar under helger, helgdagar och andra ledigheter. Arbetet innebär matning av fiskar, allmän översikt av akvariernas funktion samt dess vattenkvalitét. Arbetet utförs på timbasis och beräknad tidsåtgång per dag är ca 1-2 timmar.

An exciting consultant opportunity, starting 01-09-2020, has arisen for a highly motivated Operational Technologist at AstraZeneca Gothenburg. We are looking for a person with good team working skills together with an interest in science, technique and manufacturing equipment and practical hands-on work.

Drug Product Manufacture (DPM) in Mölndal manufactures investigational products (oral solution/suspension, parenteral solutions, capsules, tablets and inhalers) to AZ clinical studies mainly in phase I/II around the globe and is a vital part of the Pharmaceutical Development Supply Chain organisation. At DPM in the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) arena you will make a contribution in delivering clinical results and new medicines.

Early Respiratory & Immunology (Early R&I) within AstraZeneca is accountable for the discovery and the development (up to phase III) of drugs in the R&I arena. Early Clinical Development (ECD) consists of medical directors, clinical scientists and clinical program directors, who, in a collaborative manner define the strategy, design clinical trials and translate scientific ideas to proof-of-concept in target populations.

We are now looking for dedicated individuals to join the Early Clinical Development team as Associate Director/Director Clinical Scientist.



What you will do

In your role you will be a key component of the Project Team, working together with the medical director and clinical team as the authority in medical scientific aspects of the drug and its development during early phase.

The core accountabilities include driving or leading components of the programme strategy, as well as the concept and design of clinical trials within the team. Act as the scientific leaders in the development, interpretation and implementation of new endpoints.

You may support or drive parts of the set-up, conduct, reporting and regulatory submission of clinical trials. You will participate in or lead cross-functional workstreams with discovery, regulatory, clinical and commercial colleagues. You will provide or drive input into regulatory documentation, external relationship management and review of literature pertaining to the product(s) under development.

Finally, you will play a role in leading cross-project activities to direct Early Clinical Development Strategy (i.e. development of endpoints, implementation of digital strategies, strategies to demonstrate data, collaborations, target validation).



Responsibilities

Guide or own the science side of the Clinical Development Plans (CDP) and Clinical Study Protocols in keeping with the approved CDP and ensuring linkage of trial data to target product claims / profile.

Make scientific input to the design (target population, translational biomarker selection and low reference value/target value characterization). You will be responsible for providing clinical scientific leadership to data and safety reviews (may serve as medical monitor) ensuring consistency throughout the process.

Represent AstraZeneca or support for steering/organizing committees, investigator meetings, regulatory authority interactions and external product specific advisory boards for the Project/Product.

Write and check content and quality of product related publications and input to development of publication strategy.

Other responsibilities will include:

* Co-ordinate Therapeutic Area leadership for regional/global investigator (non-) AZ-sponsored study programs.
* Support the development and strategy of exploratory clinical studies as needed, to support Therapeutic Area strategy, including design, set up, conduct and reporting.
* Follow developments and trends in the clinical & scientific literature to contribute and direct strategy across Early RIA Clinical Development.

Apart from above act as a leader when needed to drive, deliver and influence the CDP and Clinical Study Protocols. Forskningen ligger i gränslandet mellan cell/strukturbiologi och medicin, vi samarbetar därför med både vår division ”Biokemi och strukturbiologi” samt Divisionen för Cell och Molekylär Biologi och Sahlgrenska akademin. • Vad skiljer sig i en funktionell och en dysfunktionell cilies struktur? Här samarbetar vi med en fertilitetsklinik för att hitta spermier med dysfunktionell simning.
• Är spermiesvansar representativa för alla mänskliga cilier eller skiljer sig ciliestrukturen även inom en och samma organism? Här kommer vi att jämföra ciliestrukturen från t.ex näsan och äggledare med spermiesvansens för att undersöka eventuella strukturella variationer.

Projektet kommer att innehålla många olika ljus- och elektronmikroskopiska metoder. Vi kommer även använda biokemiska metoder, som t.ex. att rena proteiner och sedan avbilda de isolerade molekylerna med kryoelektronmikroskopi. Bilder och tomogram behandlas digitalt, för att t.ex. bygga 3D modeller av flageller och makromolekylära komplex inuti dem. Denna process/analys kommer vara en stor komponent av arbetsuppgifterna.

Behörighet
För tillträde till utbildning på forskarnivå krävs både grundläggande och särskild behörighet.

Grundläggande behörighet till utbildning på forskarnivå har den som:
