The Infrastructure team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of OS deployment, Proxmox clusters, monitoring infrastructure, backups, and related core services. We’re looking for a Senior Rust Developer to join our iOS app team at Mullvad. The team develops and maintains the apps for the iOS platforms. Your primary focus will be working in Rust to bring new features to iOS. Our app and everything our team works on is open source and available on GitHub.

We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer with a focus on Database Administration that can take full ownership of the tuning, configuration, upkeep, maintenance and structure of our Postgre and Redis clusters.
You will be part of the Infrastructure department, this department is made up of three teams that collectively maintain the infrastructure platform, Operating System configuration management, CI/CD build pipelines and server performance.
This position is part of the Platform Team within the Infrastructure Department. The Platform team provides the platform for other teams to make use of. The infrastructure platform is made up of servers that other teams at Mullvad rely on to run or connect their software and containers.
Systems maintained by the Platform Team include our customer-facing Encrypted DNS, Leta search engine, VPN servers, as well as the “behind the scenes” services for Payments and Accounts platform, Website, Hashicorp Vault, Authoritative DNS, and monitoring & metrics.
The ideal candidates for this role will have extensive experience working with and owning Postgre and Redis clusters, ideally at large scales spread across different geographical locations. We expect you to have worked with performance tuning, configuration and expansion, disaster recovery restoration, configuration of backup strategies, as well as cluster fail- and switch-over.
Whilst this position is primarily focused on database administration, we welcome candidates that would also like to work with Linux server administration and deployments using Ansible. In our production environment we do not use VMs or cloud services, however we do self-host VM clusters in our testing and staging environment. We run Linux both on our workstations and server-side.
About you
Required: You have an in-depth knowledge of Postgre, Redis and general database concepts, and would be completely comfortable maintaining multiple clusters.
Required: You are a self-propellant individual that can work with a set goal in mind, but without requiring continuous direction.
Required: You have complete fluency in English.
Required: Swedish residency and Swedish citizenship.
Ideal: You have maintained graphs and alerts within monitoring and metrics tools to ensure databases perform as expected.

Our process consists of three separate interviews:
A meet & greet with two to three team members to get a basic understanding of who you are and your knowledge, and for you to get a basic understanding of us and how we work.

You will be part of the Infrastructure department. This department is splitting into three teams that will collectively maintain the infrastructure platform, Operating System configuration management, CI/CD build pipelines and server performance quality assurance. We are looking to create a new team responsible for keeping track of the performance of our infrastructure, quality assurance, observability with monitoring and metrics, as well as insights for our customer facing infrastructure.

The ideal candidates for this role would be used to working with both manual and automated performance testing methods, creating and acting on alerts by providing the relevant engineers with the correct information, and refreshing alerts that are not optimally configured. This role will also encompass writing monthly reports on how our services are performing to serve as a basis for decisions.

Our widely spread infrastructure has many features that get developed by mulitple teams, and we want to ensure that both pre- and post-production roll-outs are fully monitored and tested with differing configurations.

In our production environment we do not use VMs or cloud services, however we do self-host VM clusters in our testing and staging environment. We run Linux both on our workstations and server-side.

As an Infrastructure Engineer you will help with the upkeep, upgrading, automation and scaling of our internal and external services. We maintain Linux servers using Ansible that provide (amongst other things) alerting, performance metrics, web services, Encrypted and Authoritative DNS, backend Postgre databases and our widespread fleet of VPN servers.

This part of the Infrastructure Department works primarily with Ansible to add customer-facing features and to improve server deployment strategies for all server types. For this role you will be supporting our internal and external infrastructure, so a high exposure with Configuration Management tools like Ansible is greatly beneficial. This role revolves mostly around ensuring that servers are configured and scaled correctly, that the platform for other stakeholders within the company functions as expected.

Although your primary focus will be on bringing new features to Android, you will also have the opportunity to improve the app on other platforms. - The UI and the base of the Android app are written in Kotlin. This is where we hope and expect you to contribute.
- You should be familiar with creating Android UIs and handling the app life cycle in general.
- However, the backend of the app (creating the actual VPN tunnel and keeping the device secure) is written in Rust. This Rust backend is the same code base that runs on desktop. We don't expect you to know any Rust, but it's a plus if you’re interested in learning. If you know how to interact with other languages (FFI/jni) from Kotlin/Java that is a plus.

The job

You will be part of the Infrastructure team. We maintain the platform and Operating System level for all of our servers.

As a System Administrator you will help with the upkeep, upgrading, automation and scalability of our teams critical internal services. We maintain Linux servers that provide alerting, performance metrics, web services, DNS, databases and build environments for CI/CD but also for hypervisors that provide virtual testing environments.

The Infrastructure Team work primarily with Ansible and CI/CD workflows to add features and improve server deployment strategies for all our server types. For this role you will own the supporting internal infrastructure to help us make all that happen. A reasonable exposure with Configuration Management tools (specifically Ansible) would be greatly beneficial.

About you

- Required: You have a solid and proven background working with Linux, both on bare metal (for production usage) and VM clusters (for testing environments) and backup strategies
- Required: You have worked with maintaining Linux servers along with upgrading and scaling them.
