Vid avdelningen för Algebra och geometri bedriver vi forskning inom bl.a. algebraisk geometri, komplex analys, talteori, representationsteori, matematisk fysik och matematiska aspekter av AI.

Vi söker en doktorand inom analytisk talteori, med särskilt fokus på problem inom teorin för L-funktioner.  

 

Ämnesbeskrivning
Detta är ett forskningsprojekt inom analytisk talteori. Mer precist kommer doktoranden att använda analytiska metoder för att undersöka problem rörande L-funktioner, hyperbolisk geometri, modulära former eller spektralteorin för automorfa former. Möjliga forskningsinriktningar inkluderar studiet av moment och värdefördelning för zetafunktioner och L-funktioner, samt undersökningar av geodeters och andra geometriska objekts beteende på hyperboliska ytor eller lämpliga homogena rum.

Det är särskilt meriterande att ha erfarenhet från flera av följande områden: analytisk talteori, L-funktioner, funktionskroppar, hyperbolisk geometri, modulära former och (spektralteorin för) automorfa former.

In this role, you will contribute to applied research that bridges industrial mathematics, data analytics, and nutrition science.

About us
Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre (FCC) is a leading research centre in industrial mathematics, modelling, simulation, optimisation, and data analytics. We operate at the interface between academic research and industrial needs, often in interdisciplinary projects where mathematics, data, and domain expertise meet.

Together with the nutrition research group led by Professor Rikard Landberg at Chalmers University of Technology, we conduct advanced research in data-driven nutrition, health, and food science. With large-scale diet and health data, omics data, biomarkers, digital food and health services, we establish predictive models for evaluation of the role of dietary in health and disease and establish personalized dietary strategies for more effective disease prevention. In many cases, the work involves time series data, dynamic processes and phenomena, where both methods and interpretation must account for temporal dynamics. Data typically comes from intervention studies conducted in Gothenburg and/or from large cohorts and biobanks from international collaborators.

To secure and further develop this important collaboration, we are now recruiting a senior applied researcher with a strong quantitative profile and interest in nutrition, health, or medicine.

Your role
As a senior applied researcher in this area, you will:


• Act as a key person in the collaboration between FCC and the nutrition research group at Chalmers.
• Lead and conduct research projects in data-driven nutrition, such as:

• statistical modelling, AI, and machine learning on large epidemiological cohorts, diet and health data
• analysis of omics data (metabolomics, proteomics, microbiome, etc.)
• development of predictive models and digital decision-support tools for nutrition and health
• method development in causal inference, integration of heterogeneous data sources, uncertainty quantification
• analysis of time series data and dynamic processes, where signals and responses evolve over time.

• Work with a wide range of data types, for example dietary records, biomarkers, omics data, registry data, and sensor data such as CGM measurements (continuous glucose monitoring), activity trackers, and other wearable sensors.
• Contribute to grant proposals and projects for national and international funding (e.g. Swedish Research Council, Formas, EU) together with Chalmers and other partners.
• Serve as a bridge between domain researchers (nutrition, medicine, food science) and quantitative experts (mathematics, statistics, AI&ML;, systems engineering).
• Supervise and support PhD students and postdocs involved in joint projects.
• Help establish new collaborations with industry and public-sector stakeholders (e.g. food industry, health-tech companies, e-health actors).

Your profile
We are looking for someone who:


• Holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Automatic Control, Signal Processing, Systems Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• Has documented experience in data-driven research, preferably related to biomedicine, nutrition, epidemiology, food science, or public health.
• Is proficient in modern statistical modelling, AI & machine learning methods (e.g. system identification, regression models, Bayesian methods, deep learning).
• Is an experienced programmer in R and/or Python, and used to working with large datasets and reproducible analysis workflows.
• Has a demonstrated ability to initiate and drive own research ideas, preferably with experience from writing and securing research grants.
• Enjoys working in interdisciplinary environments and is curious about understanding biological/nutritional research questions in depth.

It is meritorious if you also:

• Have experience working with cohort data, registry data, clinical studies, or omics data.
• Have previously worked in projects involving both academic and industrial/external partners.
• Have experience supervising PhD students, postdocs, or junior researchers.
• Can communicate in both Swedish and English; excellent English is required.

Om rollen och projektet Doktorandprojektet är finansierat av Stiftelsen för Strategisk Forskning, och ligger i den internationella framkanten. I projektet kommer du att undersöka folkhälso- och samhällseffekterna av det digitala Livsstilsverktyget, som har utvecklats vid Göteborgs universitet och idag används av över 100,000 personer. Projektet är en omfattande nationell satsning för prevention av livsstilssjukdomar.
Digitala verktyg som Livsstilsverktyget kan ge kostnadseffektiv och personanpassad stöttning för att befrämja hälsosamma vanor, men långtidseffekterna är dåligt utvärderade. Projektet ska därför studera verktygets preventiva effekter på samhällsnivå, genom att undersöka sjukdomsincidens och läkemedelsförskrivning samt skillnader i effekt mellan olika socioekonomiska och kliniska grupper. Även kostnadseffektiviteten och hur interventionen kan nyttiggöras genom utfallskontrakt kommer att undersökas. Bakgrunden är att förändrande levnadsvanor är centralt för att förebygga typ 2-diabetes, hjärtkärlsjukdom och flera cancerformer, men insatser för att långsiktigt stödja hälsosamma vanor prioriteras inte.
Under hösten 2025 inleds den första fasen av dataanalys från användarna. Det ger tillgång till data om medicinska utfall, psykosociala faktorer och socioekonomi av en omfattning som är sällsynt också i internationell jämförelse. Doktoranden kommer att leda dataanalyserna med stöd från sina handledare. Projektet förväntas ge god träning i dataanalys och djup förståelse för kliniska data och hur resultaten kan tillämpas i samhället. Parallellt löper en studie där Livsstilsverktyget kopplas till en AI-baserad språkmodell för att göra det ännu mer personanpassat.
Som doktorand blir du del av en större konstellation av forskare och analytiker vid RISE och Göteborgs universitet: Du blir anställd på RISE och antagen till forskarutbildningen på Sahlgrenska akademin. Utbildningen är inom medicinsk vetenskap och motsvarar sammanlagt 240 högskolepoäng. Kurser på forskarnivå ingår, med godkänt resultat om minst 30 högskolepoäng.
Doktorandtjänsten löper över fyra år. Du ska genomföra ett vetenskapligt projekt och självständigt skriva en vetenskaplig sammanläggningsavhandling. Handledare vid Göteborgs universitet är läkare och professor Anders Rosengren och på RISE är forskare Magnus Johansson bihandledare. Within the Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS) function at AstraZeneca, we have a groundbreaking Clinical Pharmacology and Quantitative Pharmacology (CPQP) organization with a diverse and uniquely skilled team of Clinical Pharmacometricians and Clinical Pharmacology Leads. What you will do
Working closely with clinical pharmacologists, physicians, statisticians and other scientists, you will apply model informed drug development (MIDD) to contribute to clinical programs, to support the design and interpretation of clinical studies and influence key decisions in early and late clinical development.

The work includes integration of relevant data, such as dose information, pharmacokinetics, biomarkers and clinical endpoints within and across studies, compounds and development stages. Use of simulations and pharmacometric/statistical analyses to inform trial and program designs and decisions are important focus areas for us.

In collaboration with clinical pharmacologists, you will represent CPQP in cross-functional clinical project teams and be responsible for identifying and driving model informed drug development opportunities, to accelerate and advise decision making. Based on your interest, skills and experience, you might also take on strategic planning and delivery of the clinical pharmacology strategy acting as a dual Clinical Pharmacometrician/Clinical Pharmacologist. RISE Social Hållbarhet är en tvärvetenskaplig enhet med erfarna praktiker och forskare med bakgrund inom bland annat ingenjörsvetenskap, nationalekonomi, psykologi och folkhälsovetenskap. Vi arbetar med frågor som rör välfärd, preventiv hälsa, segregation och rättvis omställning. Vi utvärderar policys och agerar beslutsstöd inom offentlig sektor. Våra arbetsmetoder inkluderar analys, design, uppföljning, utvärdering och implementering, samt modeller för samarbete och ekonomisk ersättning. Vi gör detta genom direkta uppdrag från offentlig sektor, civilsamhälle och företag, eller via projekt finansierade av forskningsfinansiärer.
Om rollen På RISE enhet Social Hållbarhet utvecklas sedan några år ett fält där registerdata och geodata om byggnader kopplas till ekonomiska och sociala data. Det senaste steget är att använda fasadbilder, ortofoton och texter om byggnader analyserade med multimodala stora språkmodeller för att parametrisera ytterligare information om byggnader. Vi söker nu en forskare som inom detta fält kan bidra i flera olika projekt med den gemensamma nämnaren att data används för att förstå och påverka utvecklingen i städer och i samhället. Du får arbeta både direkt med dataanalyser, AI-prediktioner och datahantering i forskningsprojekt samt som rådgivare inom relaterade policyfrågor för offentliga aktörer, exempelvis Boverket.

The goal for this postdoc will be to:

* Work alongside technical and domain experts, including drug project teams and the burgeoning Data Science and AI community across AZ and Rigshospitalet.
* Contribute to scientific strategies & provide a rationale for targeting specific patient cohorts in studies
* Develop algorithms that can be implemented to improve benefit-risk for treatment based on individualized decision support
* Employ a range of machine learning techniques to reveal unique patterns and actionable insight impacting research and clinical practices.
* Publish cutting edge research, code and scientific discoveries in high-impact journals, meetings and repositories.

Minimum Requirements

* A PhD in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Data Sciences, Mathematics, Physics,
Computational Statistics or similar)
* Excellent communication and presentation skills
* Expertise solving big/complex data problems with state-of-the-art analytical techniques,
* particularly in machine/deep learning (preferably for biological/health data e.g., genomics)
* High programming proficiency (Python and/or R)

Vi söker nu en universitetslektor i matematik som ska bidra till institutionens forskningsverksamhet inom analys. Den framgångsrike kandidaten förväntas utveckla och upprätthålla ett forskningsprogram på hög nivå i matematik med tonvikt på C*-algebraiska metoder i operatorteori samt delta i grund- och forskarutbildningen i matematik vid vår institution.


Vi förväntar oss att den framgångsrika kandidaten stärker och kompletterar den forskning som utförs vid avdelningen för analys och sannolikhetsteori. Vi är särskilt intresserade av att förstärka vår forskning inom funktionalanalys och operatoralgebror.

As the Director Statistical Programming, you are accountable for the management of Statistical Programming on the sub-therapeutic area level. In this role, you will provide significant input to the strategy of Programming.

Strong leadership skills are crucial, as well as a proven track record of managing a global team. The role also includes establishing global functional staff and ensuring statistical programming, reporting, and adherence to clinical data standards.

På avdelningen för tillämpad matematik och statistik bedriver vi forskning inom teori och implementering av finita elementmetoder, inversa vågutbredningsproblem, stokastiska partiella differentialekvationer, geometrisk numerisk integration, optimering, biomatematik, biostatistik, spatial modellering, Bayesiansk inferens, högdimensionell data, storskaliga beräkningsmetoder och bioinformatik. Området datavetenskap och maskininlärning expanderar också snabbt på avdelningen.

Vi söker en postdoc, finansierad av Knut och Alice Wallenbergs stiftelses matematikprogram, till Axel Målqvists forskargrupp. Målqvists forskargrupp i beräkningsmatematik tillhör avdelningen för tillämpad matematik och statistik. Inriktningen på tjänsten är utveckling och analys av multinivåmetoder för att lösa ekvationer formulerade på spatiella  nätverksmodeller. Erfarenhet av utveckling av multiskalmetoder och spatiella nätverksproblem är meriterande.

 

Arbetsuppgifter 
Målet med postdocprojektet är att utveckla, analysera och implementera effektiva och tillförlitliga multinivåmetoder för att lösa ekvationer formulerade på spatiella nätverk. Spatiella nätverk används bland annat för att simulera mekaniska egenskaper hos som fiber-baserade och porösa material. Du kommer arbeta med multiskalmetoder (Super-localized orthoginal decomposition), iterativa metoder (algebraisk multigrid) samt multilevel Monte Carlo simulering av randomiserade nätverk. Konvergensanalysen av de utvecklade metoderna är högt prioriterad. Du förväntas arbeta med alla aspekter av projektet inklusive implementation av effektiva lösare.

 

Kompetens
Du förväntas kunna samarbeta med andra forskare och bidra i flera parallella projekt. Dokumenterad erfarenhet av utveckling, analys och implementation av numeriska metoder för nätverksproblem är högt meriterande. Stor vikt kommer läggas på personlig lämplighet. Flytande engelska förväntas liksom förmåga att arbeta i interdisciplinära team.

 
Behörighet 
Behörighetskrav till akademiska tjänster står att finna i kapitel 4, sektioner 3 och 4, i Högskoleförordningen. För att kvalificera sig för tjänsten måste den sökande ha erhållit en doktorsexamen i matematik eller annat relaterat område det datum då beslut om tjänstetillsättning fattas. Doktorsavhandlingen ska vara i ett för tjänsten relevant område, till exempel numerisk analys eller tillämpad matematik. Anställningen som biträdande forskare kommer att ligga under Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper men visst arbete kommer att utföras vid Statsvetenskapliga institutionen tillsammans med professor Elin Naurin och forskargruppen the Gothenburg Research Program on Pregnancy and Politics (www.gu.se/pregdem).

När det nya coronaviruset Sars-CoV2 orsakade Covid-19 pandemin var det helt okänt hur en infektion med Sars-CoV2 skulle påverka gravida kvinnor och deras ofödda och nyfödda barn. Förutom själva sjukdomen så hade pandemin stora effekter på vården där bl.a. partners inte fick delta i mödrahälsovården och föräldrar blev separerade från sina barn. Hur vården har förändrats pga pandemin har sett olika ut i olika delar av landet.

Forskare vid Sahlgrenska Akademi har tillsammans med forskare vid Statsvetenskapliga institutionen satt upp ett flertal studier för att studera frågor om hur Covid-19 och Covid-19 pandemin påverkade hälsan för kvinnan och barnet, hur föräldrarna har upplevt att bli föräldrar under pandemin och hur samhället har bemött utmaningarna som pandemin har medfört för en av dess mest sårbara grupper- gravida kvinnor.

Tillsammans bedriver forskarna registerbaserade projekt och leder en klinisk multicenterstudie i Sverige där kvinnor och barn har lämnat biologiskt material och där föräldrarna följs med hjälp av enkäter (www.copestudien.se). De forskar också på samhällsrelaterade frågor inom ramen för PregDem-projektet (www.gu.se/en/pregdem). Forskargruppen är multiprofessionell och består av förlossningsläkare, barnläkare, infektionsläkare, barnmorskor och statsvetare. I gruppen ingår även flera doktorander. 

Arbetsuppgifter 
I arbetsuppgifterna ingår att överse forskningsdatabasen, det vill säga att hantera data i form av kodning, kvalitetsgranskning, sammanförande och distribuerande av data. Det ingår också att hjälpa forskargruppen att utföra statistiska analyser samt att ta egna initiativ till statistiska analyser som är relevanta för forskargruppen. Det kommer finnas möjligheter att delta i producerandet av vetenskapliga texter och att delta i skrivandet av ansökningar för forskningsmedel. Även administrativa uppgifter kommer att förekomma, såsom kommunikation med registerhållare, olika forskare, studiecenter och personal på olika laboratorier. 

Kvalifikationer 
För anställningen krävs avslutad relevant högskoleutbildning där matematisk kunskap och analys av stora mänger data ingår. Det är ett krav att ha arbetat med statistiskt datamaterial och ha kunskap i programmen som tex Stata, SPSS, R och Excel. Det är meriterande med kunskap avseende statistiska metoder, tidigare arbete med registerforskning och speciellt arbete med medicinska födelseregistret, graviditetsregistret eller nyföddhetsregistret.

Det är en fördel att ha insikt i så kallade NLP-metoder (Natural Language Processing) eftersom det kan förekomma arbetsuppgifter där du självständigt kommer assistera i den typen av forskning. Det är också en fördel att ha tidigare erfarenhet av kodning av öppna enkätsvar samt att ha ett intresse för tvärdisciplinär medicinsk och samhällsvetenskaplig forskning.

Du har förmåga att se hur detaljer påverkar helheten och har en välutvecklad analytisk förmåga. Du kan arbeta helt självständigt, planera och organisera ditt arbete, lösa problem och har stor initiativförmåga. Då du möter kollegor och respondenter via telefon och epost krävs ödmjukhet och ett vänligt bemötande samt en stor respekt för de inblandades personliga integritet. Då arbetsspråket till stor del är engelska krävs mycket goda kunskaper i engelska i tal och skrift.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg has about 200 employees, and is the largest department of mathematics in Sweden. At the division of Applied Mathematics and Statistics we conduct research within the theory and implementation of finite element methods, stochastic partial differential equations, geometric numerical integration, fluid dynamics, inverse wave propagation problems, optimization, biostatistics, spatial modeling, Bayesian inference, high-dimensional data, large-scale computational methods, and bioinformatics. The division is also expanding in the area of data science and machine learning.

Project description

We will recruit one postdoc in mathematics to work with Annika Lang on a project on time-evolving stochastic manifolds funded by the European Research Council (ERC Consolidator Grant). For more details, see http://www.math.chalmers.se/~langa/

The project includes components of stochastic analysis, geometry, partial differential equations (PDE), and computational mathematics. Experience in any of these fields is meritorious.


Major responsibilities


You will be employed for three years at the Department of Mathematical Sciences. You are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form. As a postdoc, you are expected to work independently and to be able to supervise/co-supervise Master’s and PhD students. The teaching of undergraduate students may also be included to a small extent.


Qualifications


Applicants must have a strong background in mathematics. You must have obtained a PhD degree in mathematics, applied mathematics or a related topic, or expect to complete such a degree by September 1, 2023.

Experience in some of the following areas is meritorious: stochastic analysis, numerical analysis, differential geometry, computational methods for stochastic (partial) differential equations, random fields, programming, mathematical statistics.

Good presentation and communication skills in oral and written English are required.

You should include all relevant work in your application such as articles and your PhD thesis (provide an English summary if necessary) that you have authored or co-authored.

What does the Programme involve?

We have opportunities targeted at Statisticians with little or no experience in the pharmaceutical industry to work across all stages of development statistics activities. In this permanent position, you will spend the first two years at AstraZeneca working in a structured training programme, working on drug development projects. In addition, you will receive on-the-job statistical training and be part of a global training programme for Biometrics Graduates.

Arbetsuppgifter
Du kommer att vara inskriven på ett forskarutbildningsprogram vid institutionen för matematiska vetenskaper (http://www.chalmers.se/sv/institutioner/math/forskning/forskarutbildning/Sidor/forskarskolor-och-forskarutbildningsamnen.aspx). Under andra halvan av doktorandstudierna förväntas du utveckla dina egna idéer och kommunicera vetenskapliga resultat såväl muntligt som skriftligt. We seek a talented and motivated Biopharmaceutics Scientists with a background in mathematical modelling to strengthen the Biopharmaceutics team in the Inhalation Product Development unit in Gothenburg, Sweden.

As a Biopharmaceutics Scientist you are expected to provide drug project teams with an assessment on how the properties of the inhaled drug product (and changes thereof) are likely impacting its safety, therapeutic efficacy and pharmacokinetics in patients. With your background in mathematical modelling you will be responsible for leading the development and application of in silico modelling tools to enable such assessment. This is an exciting role and environment where you will work across the borders of numerous AstraZeneca functions supporting the development of the next generation of inhaled drugs.

Pharmaceutical Technology & Development (PT&D) is a global function tasked with design, development, commercialization and support of AstraZeneca's medicines and reports to the EVP of Operations. Inhalation Product Development (IPD) in Gothenburg sits within PT&D and is responsible for the development of inhalation products including combinations.

In this role, you will have responsibilities for inhaled formulation and drug product designs and in vivo product performance, considering how the drug product should be optimally designed for efficient and robust delivery to the lung target site, ensuring optimal outcomes in clinical programs. Specific focus is put on the changes in drug product that typically occurs between different phases of clinical development as the product moves towards registration and launch. Changes in in vitro properties such as aerosol performance can result in altered total and regionally deposited drug dose in the lung and therefore alter measures of in vivo performance e.g., pharmacokinetic profile.

We are looking for candidates with strong skills in mathematical modelling who has a proven interest of, or preferably pre-existing experience in, developing and applying mathematical modelling techniques in areas of relevance to biopharmaceutics: chemistry, physics, biology, and medicine. The candidate should have inclination and ability to collaborate and partner with experimentalists and domain experts and deliver as a team.

The career level of the position will be set according to the qualifications of the successful applicant.

What you'll do

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team composed of formulators, analyst, solid and material state experts and you are expected to take a holistic view of chemical manufacturing and control (CMC) activities as well a working knowledge of other scientific disciplines such as safety assessment, clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics.

The mechanistic models you will be working with and develope will include mathematical descriptions of 1) aerosol deposition in the lung, 2) particle dissolution, 3) the molecule´s permeation into and distribution withing lung tissue and 4) subsequent transport to blood and whole-body pharmacokinetics. It will be your responsibility to foresee this and develop mitigation strategies to enable leveraging of previously established safety and efficacy of the drug so as to minimize delays in the program. You are expected to present your work to internal governance bodies and to regulatory authorities. Furthermore, inhaled biologics and other non-small molecules represent emerging and novel types of inhaled drugs. In this space you, as biopharmaceutics expert, will be evaluating the role of excipients to deliver and stabilize the drug protein at the target site.

Essential Requirements

* Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline (such as engineering, mathematics, biopharmaceutics, pharmaceutics, or pharmacokinetics) or equivalent industrial experience within pharmaceutical drug development.
* Strong experience in one of the following areas of mathematical modelling: physiologically-based pharmacokinetics /biopharmaceutics, computational fluid dynamics of aerosols, systems biology, systems pharmacology.
* Ability to quantitatively address uncertainty of model predictions and parameter estimates.
* Proven interest and ability to address new scientific problems by mathematical modelling.
* Ability to judge what types of problems are more/less likely to be successfully addressed by mathematical modelling.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability and inclination to work collaboratively in a team.
* Documented independence in driving a research project.

Biopharmaceutical Modelling Expert in Inhaled Drug Delivery

We seek a talented and motivated Biopharmaceutics Scientist with a background in mathematical modelling to strengthen the Biopharmaceutics team in the Inhalation Product Development unit in Gothenburg, Sweden.

As a Biopharmaceutics Scientist you are expected to provide drug project teams with an assessment on how the properties of the inhaled drug product (and changes thereof) are likely impacting its safety, therapeutic efficacy and pharmacokinetics in patients. With your background in mathematical modelling you will be responsible for leading the development and application of in silico modelling tools to enable such assessment. This is an exciting role and environment where you will work across the borders of numerous AstraZeneca functions supporting the development of the next generation of inhaled drugs.

Pharmaceutical Technology & Development (PT&D) is a global function tasked with design, development, commercialization and support of AstraZeneca's medicines and reports to the EVP of Operations. Inhalation Product Development in Gothenburg sits within PT&D and is responsible for the development of inhalation products including combinations.

What you'll do

You will have responsibilities for inhaled formulation and drug product designs and in vivo product performance, considering how the drug product should be optimally designed for efficient and robust delivery to the lung target site, ensuring optimal outcomes in clinical programs. Specific focus is put on the changes in drug product that typically occurs between different phases of clinical development as the product moves towards registration and launch. Changes in in vitro properties such as aerosol performance can result in altered total and regionally deposited drug dose in the lung and therefore alter measures of in vivo performance e.g., pharmacokinetic profile. It will be your responsibility to foresee this and develop mitigation strategies to enable leveraging of previously established safety and efficacy of the drug so as to minimize delays in the program. You are expected to present your work to internal governance bodies and potentially also regulatory authorities. Furthermore, inhaled biologics and other non-small molecules represent emerging and novel types of inhaled drugs. In this space you, as biopharmaceutics expert, will be evaluating the role of excipients to deliver and stabilize the drug protein at the target site.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team composed of formulators, analyst, solid and material state experts and you are expected to take a holistic view of chemical manufacturing and control (CMC) activities as well a working knowledge of other scientific disciplines such as safety assessment, clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics.

We are looking for candidates with strong skills in mathematical modelling who has a proven interest of, or preferably pre-existing experience in, developing and applying mathematical modelling techniques in areas of relevance to biopharmaceutics: chemistry, physics, biology, and medicine. The candidate should have inclination and ability to collaborate and partner with experimentalists and domain experts and deliver as a team.

The career level Senior Scientist/Assoc. Principal Scientist will be set according to the qualifications of the successful applicant.

Minimum Requirements

* Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline (such as engineering, mathematics, biopharmaceutics, pharmaceutics, or pharmacokinetics) or equivalent industrial experience within pharmaceutical drug development.
* Strong experience in one of the following areas of mathematical modelling: computational fluid dynamics of aerosols, molecular modelling, physiologically-based pharmacokinetics /biopharmaceutics, systems biology, systems pharmacology.
* Proven interest and ability to address new scientific problems by mathematical modelling.
* Ability to judge what types of problems are more/less likely to be successfully addressed by mathematical modelling.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability and inclination to work collaboratively in a team.
* Documented independence in successful driving a research project.

Preferred Requirements

* Track record of scientific excellence in terms of publications, presentations and networking activities. Capable of, and desire for continuing to develop yourself in this area.
* Experience of lung deposition modelling.
* Experience of characterisation of protein stability.
* Experience of using physiologically-based pharmacokinetic/biopharmaceutic modelling in regulatory submissions.
* Good understanding/knowledge of the overall drug development process and knowledge of what CMC attributes that make this process successful.
* Track record of design of active pharmaceutical ingredients based on expert knowledge of how material and molecular properties interact to provide an optimal inhaled medicine.
* Familiar with ICH guidelines, USP/EP requirements, and FDA/EU guidance on inhalation dosage forms.

Early CVRM is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within AstraZeneca which deliver candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development. Early CVRM is a global function with research units in Gaithersburg, US, Cambridge, UK and Gothenburg, Sweden. The Modelling & Simulation team is part of the Drug, Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department and based in AstraZeneca's world-class R&D center in Gothenburg Sweden. DMPK interacts with other functions in supporting Early CVRM projects all along the value chain, from target selection all the way to market launch and life-cycle management.

What you'll do

With a true passion for science you will support our portfolio within the CVRM disease area. You will deliver translational quantitative/PKPD input for a broad range of drug modalities from target identification to life-cycle management. The position can be at Senior Scientist or Associate Principal Scientist level depending on the experience of the successful candidate. Responsibilities includes:

Identify the appropriate mathematical modelling approach (e.g. traditional PKPD modelling, non-linear mixed effects modelling, quantitative systems pharmacology) to deliver the PKPD insights to projects

Design preclinical PKPD studies, contribute to estimation of safety margins and report results and interpretations to project teams and internal governance bodies
*

In collaboration with key functions (e.g. bioscientists, translational scientists, safety scientists, clinical pharmacologists and clinical pharmacometricians) integrate the appropriate data to predict human pharmacokinetics, efficacious human drug exposure, human longitudinal response (e.g. biomarker and disease effects), and human dosing regimen

Communicate scientific progresses both externally and internally

The successful candidate is expected to have a solid PKPD understanding and hands-on mathematical modelling experience (e.g. empirical PKPD models, in vitro-in vivo translation, non-linear mixed effects models, quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) models).
