Assignment description
Calibration Engineer within the Thermal Management and Hydraulics area for xEV powertrains and vehicles.
The work scope includes thermal energy coordination between the different elements of a xEV powertrain and comfort of the passenger compartment. This includes controlling the heating and cooling of the combustion engine, e-machine, transmission, power electronics, battery and cabin. Your responsibility is to perform calibration and verification activities on desktop, engine rig or in vehicle to fulfill the attribute targets of the powertrain and vehicle.
Depending on your background and interest the scope could also include function development of our inhouse application software or to support on topics related to oil pressure control.
You will also support with system design with future products for a variety of applications to different customers.
Work will be carried out in both vehicles and in a test cell, testing may also be carried out in locations other than Gothenburg and in climates that are not found in the immediate area.

The Industrial Development and Calibration function within product development is responsible for testing and optimizing both hardware and software related to performance, emissions, and durability of industrial combustion engines.
As a Development Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering test and optimization tasks as part of a project team. Your work will range from sensor linearization to preparing complete engine software settings for production.
Main Responsibilities

What you will do

At Group Truck Technology (GTT), you will contribute to the transformation of our company, the transport industry, and society at large. You will be part of the Chassis Structure & Transport Adaptation team, with a main focus on the Chassis Structure area. This includes responsibility for components such as cab and engine/electric motor suspension, propshaft installation, and frame ladder.

Your role will primarily involve product development of suspended installations, but also contributing to team development and continuous improvement of processes and methods. What you will do

As a Prestudy Leader for Cooling Routing on BEV trucks, you will play a crucial role in the early phases of development. Your main responsibilities will include:
* Providing input and feedback on the thermal system from a routing perspective
* Designing early CAD concepts to evaluate feasibility together with stakeholders
* Coordinating installation requirements for upcoming projects to optimize both system and component levels

In addition to working on future projects, you will also be involved in ongoing development—planning activities, eliminating roadblocks, creating technical roadmaps, and ensuring successful deliveries. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including suppliers, production teams, quality, aftermarket, and more.
Your role will also cover design work, requirement setting, documentation, validation, and verification of cooling system routing installations. Key tools include CAD (CREO), Microsoft Office, and Volvo’s documentation systems. The main design area involves installing various components in the front area of the truck (under the cab), covering all development phases from initial concepts to maintenance. The Exhaust aftertreatment system(EATS) department is responsible for the global platform development of exhaust aftertreatment systems for the Volvo Group´s different products around the world. Powertrain Engineering is looking for a Lead Combustion System Calibration Engineer

Tasks


The main tasks in our teams are to meet our customer’s expectation on quality, fuel consumption and to comply with emission legislation. This is done by selecting Engine HW-components, calibrate engine related functions. Coming emission legislation requires development of advanced control strategies together with an optimized hardware. You will be an important contributor in this development. We work in agile teams with good collaboration with our colleagues in software development and design teams. Our daily work is an exciting mix of time spent in engine laboratory, virtual testing, simulation, data analysis, creative meetings and vehicle testing. You get the opportunity to follow your calibration from draft to test cell to verification in a truck. Expeditions in warm and cold climate are also included.


We have an agile way of working, where each team plan their activities in sprints and deliver solutions together as a team. We strive to have an open and honest environment within the teams, where it is easy to ask each other for support when needed. The tasks can be either part of a larger project or short tasks to improve products currently in production.


We see that you have at least 5 years of experience within combustion engine development, where of 3 years in engine calibration. You have considerable experience in combustion engine modeling and optimization and experience from leading technical tasks. We use virtual calibration tools and methods. The continuous improvement in this area is important for us and you will be an important contributor in this work.


Qualifications
Master of Science or similar relevant technical experience
Fluent in English, written and spoken
H2-ICE experience is meriting

Önskade kvalifikationer:

We are looking for a Calibration Engineer for our client in the automotive industry in the area of Aftertreatment and On Board Diagnostics. You will be part of the team that develops the next generation engines from concept design and requirements as well as calibration and verification in the last development phase.
You will be working close with others in an agile scrum team focusing on delivering OBD Software Functions and Software Applications with respect to legal requirements, different powertrains, and market features. As a Calibration Engineer you will be responsible for calibration and verification of OBD monitors, as well as data analysis of measurement data through simulation for robustness and statistical risk assessments. You will create and run simulation scripts to improve the embedded software and optimize calibration parameters. You will develop methods for, and perform testing such as; hot and cold climate, high altitude, humidity, etc. on expeditions around the world. The job suits engineers that enjoy combining control and monitoring theory and measurement data analysis with performing hands-on testing.
Skills required:
-A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Applied Physics, Mechatronics, Electronics, Chemistry or similar.
-You have a passion for vehicles and clean emissions.
-You like both hands on testing and doing the analysis.
-Skilled in: Matlab, C, Python or similar.
-Excellent communication skills in English preferably also in Swedish.
-Driving license “B”, valid in Sweden is a MUST
-Experience from embedded systems or engine application engineering, aftermarket or workshops

ARBETSUPPGIFTER
Som kalibreringstekniker kommer du att arbeta med testmätningar och kalibrering av strålningsinstrument. Tjänsten kommer att inledas med en introduktion för att skapa de bästa förutsättningarna för dig i ditt arbete.

Du kommer till exempel att:


* Attestera instrument för service
* Kontrollera servicelappar
* Överlämna testrapporter till tekniker som åtgärdar eventuella brister


Arbetet sker på eftermiddags-/ kvällstid två valfria vardagar i veckan och går därför utmärkt att kombinera med studierna. Du startar 16.00 och arbetar till 20.00 på kvällen. Du kommer ingå i en studentpool där du bokar in dig på arbetspass.

VI SÖKER DIG SOM
- Är student på högskola/universitet och har minst ett år kvar av din utbildning
- Har möjlighet att arbeta mellan 16-20 två vardagskvällar i veckan under termin
- Har någon typ av arbetslivserfarenhet och har erfarenhet av att ta ansvar
